The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA) has made a significant investment of $1.9 million to support 21 major festivals and sports events throughout the state of Hawai‘i, an announcement revealed.
This funding is part of the agency’s ‘Signature Events’ program aimed at enriching local communities, fostering interactions between residents and visitors, and attracting attendees from outside Hawai‘i.
Caroline Anderson, the interim president and CEO of HTA, expressed, ‘These world-class festivals shine a global spotlight on our athletes, artists and unparalleled beauty, while invigorating our economy.’
Anderson emphasized that the events celebrate what makes Hawai‘i unique: ‘Our rich culture, diverse communities and a shared sense of place create memorable experiences for both our residents and visitors.’
The Signature Events program represents one of HTA’s essential destination stewardship initiatives, which is executed in partnership with Kilohana, a division of the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.
The project terms will take effect from July 1, 2025, until June 30, 2026. The selected events, showcasing Hawai‘i’s history, culture, food, and sports, also incorporate elements of ‘voluntourism’.
