After a whirlwind six months starring in multiple projects, Jack Quaid is ready for some downtime.
The actor, known for his roles in shows like “The Boys,” expressed his longing for home during a recent interview from his Los Angeles apartment, which he shares with his girlfriend and co-star Claudia Doumit.
“It’s amazing that I get to do this job, but I do find myself missing home a lot,” Quaid said.
With a year that included his roles in the sci-fi thriller “Companion,” the superhero film “Novocaine,” and the crime thriller “Neighborhood Watch,” Quaid also traveled to London for his part in “Heads of State,” now streaming on Prime Video.
Reflecting on his experiences, he noted, “I’ve really grown up on that show,” referring to his time on “The Boys,” which he described as a rigorous training ground for actors.
In a recent Zoom call, Quaid opened up about his ideal Sunday in Los Angeles, a day packed with his favorite local spots.
The morning starts early for Quaid, who enjoys brewing coffee with Claudia and establishing a relaxed morning routine.
“We’ll go out onto our balcony, have our coffee and play backgammon,” he shared, explaining that he learned to play the game on the set of “The Boys.”
With the sun rising over the city, Quaid cherishes these moments before diving into the rest of his day.
As he transitions into his day, he embarks on a lengthy walk to explore Los Angeles’ streets.
Quaid has a favorite stop: Golden Apple, a comic book shop where he often delves into new issues and chats with the staff about his latest finds.
His comic interests have evolved recently beyond superheroes, with his current obsession surrounding the work of writer James Tynion IV.
“I really started getting into this writer named James Tynion IV. I started reading ‘Something Is Killing the Children’ and got obsessed with it,” he said, reflecting on his renewed passion for comics.
For lunch, Quaid reminisces about happy times spent at Swingers Diner, where he used to gather with his sketch comedy group.
After walking to the diner, he hopes to enjoy a hearty breakfast, craving a mix of pancakes and peanut butter during this perfect Sunday.
Late morning sees Quaid visiting Coffee for Sasquatch, a local spot that connects to his comedy group’s name.
“I’d get their frozen blended coffee with almond milk, which is basically a milkshake,” he smiled, visualizing the treat that would accompany his comic reading session.
By around 4 p.m., Quaid begins to feel a sense of unease, regarding this time as his least favorite of the day.
To combat these feelings, he often finds solace in virtual photography, capturing stunning images from video game landscapes.
“It’s really calming so I think I would need that around 4 p.m.,” he explained about his creative escape.
As the day shifts towards evening, Quaid sees potential in a jog down Sunset Boulevard, where he can soak in the atmosphere of the city.
“I’d probably jog by the Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory,” he said, emphasizing how jogging also helps to ease his anxiety.
By 7 p.m., it’s time for a Mexican feast with friends, and Quaid dreams of gathering a large group for dinner at a classic establishment in the city.
“My favorite thing to do in L.A. is to eat authentic Mexican food. So I’d go to any restaurant with ‘El’ in the title,” he shared, highlighting a trio of his favorite spots.
His preferred dish involves shrimp and chicken fajitas, paired with spicy margaritas.
As he indulges in good food and company, Quaid revels in L.A.’s vibrant culinary scene.
When nighttime arrives, he finds great joy in attending movie screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, a nostalgic tradition of his from high school.
These outdoor movie showings, organized by Cinespia, allow attendees to bring blankets, snacks, and wine, all while enjoying classic films in a unique setting.
However, if given the choice, Quaid would prefer the return of ArcLight Cinemas, his favorite movie theater that closed during the pandemic.
“I’d love to manifest another dream. ArcLight was the best place to be a moviegoer,” he reminisced about the camaraderie shared among movie enthusiasts there.
He concludes his perfect Sunday late at night, envisioning a visit to Canter’s Deli, where he enjoys late-night bites while watching cartoons.
This ideal day reflects Quaid’s deep connection to Los Angeles, melding together his love for the city, its culture, and its food, while making time for the things he enjoys with the people he holds dear.
As the conversation winds down, it’s clear that Quaid is thankful for the time he can spend in L.A., cherishing both work and leisure in this vibrant city.
