Local Entrepreneur Fatally Shot While Streaming on Facebook Live

A tragic incident unfolded in Chicago on Wednesday when Kevin Watson, a 40-year-old entrepreneur, was shot and killed while he was streaming on Facebook Live.

The shooting occurred around 6:15 p.m. in the 5000 block of West Madison Street.

Witnesses reported that a driver approached Watson’s vehicle, leading to an exchange of words before gunfire erupted, striking him in the chest.

His sister, Teletha Watson, received the devastating news from another sibling and rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Despite her hopes that he would survive, Kevin Watson was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, at 6:52 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Teletha Watson described the heartache of losing her brother, sharing that their last moments together were filled with laughter as they enjoyed popsicles and candy.

“We can’t eat, we can’t sleep; my head has been banging,” Teletha expressed, overwhelmed with grief.

She characterized her emotions as a whirlwind of pain, anger, sadness, and disbelief in the wake of Kevin’s sudden death.

Kevin Watson was known not just as an entrepreneur but as a role model within his community.

His sister revealed that he often warned younger relatives, including his own 7-year-old son, about the dangers of following the wrong path, having faced his own challenges after being jailed at a young age.

Despite his past, he focused on uplifting the youth in his community.

“There are relatives going off to college right now, honors program children who are into sports because of him,” Teletha mentioned.

During the Facebook Live broadcast, the chilling events unfolded as Kevin stepped out of his vehicle when confronted by the gunman.

According to the video, Watson initially greeted the assailant, but as the confrontation escalated, he chose to stand up for himself rather than resort to violence.

“He gave them a pass; he wanted to show what it meant to fight like men,” Teletha asserted, proud of her brother’s principles.

Kevin Watson was well-regarded for his infectious smile and vivacious spirit.

His sister fondly remembered him as the “goofiest, the funniest, and the most liveliest person” who was always there for his family and community.

Despite his troubled past, he aimed to teach children there was a peaceful way to navigate life, impacting many in ways his family was not even aware of.

Teletha reported that numerous individuals approached her to express their gratitude for the positive influence Kevin had on their lives and their children.

He was not only a loving father but also a caring uncle who treated his nieces and nephews as his own.

In the aftermath of his tragic death, the community mourns a beloved figure who dedicated so much of his life to promoting positivity and non-violence.
