The Origin Hotel Atlanta officially opened its doors on Monday, marking a significant addition to South Downtown’s revitalization efforts ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Situated at 110 Mitchell St., this boutique hotel, a Wyndham Hotels property, occupies a revamped six-story office building and features 122 rooms designed to showcase Southern charm and bold aesthetics.
Located just a block south of Underground Atlanta, the hotel represents one of the few major, non-governmental investments in the area near Five Points and the Georgia State Capitol.
Originally scheduled to open in October 2022, the project faced multiple construction delays.
In November 2022, the planned all-day dining spot, Butter + Scotch, withdrew from the project due to frustrations with ongoing delays.
The hotel has since introduced a new dining option called Social Capitol American Bistro, which aims to blend global flavors with Southern hospitality and operates from breakfast through dinner.
Room rates at the Origin Hotel Atlanta currently start at $122 for standard rooms with one king bed, while premier suites begin at $328 per night.
This pet-friendly establishment also boasts several amenities, including a private event space on the top floor that offers spectacular skyline views, a fitness center, and a retail store filled with Atlanta-themed souvenirs.
The design of the hotel embraces a midcentury loft aesthetic, highlighting local history through collaborative efforts with the Atlanta-based art consulting firm Faulkner + Locke.
A notable feature of the lobby is an impressive 50-foot art installation titled “ATL,” created by Atlanta artist Phil Proctor, the founder of Nucleus Sculpture Studio.
To enhance the property’s ambiance, The Victorian Atlanta was commissioned to add an array of plants throughout the hotel.
Additionally, Origin leadership plans to collaborate with Pedego Atlanta to provide guests with complimentary e-bike rentals, encouraging exploration of the city and offering group rides for corporate events.
The hotel is positioned at the intersection of Pryor and Mitchell streets, close to the revitalized parts of downtown’s historic Hotel Row, which has seen previous development efforts halted and later purchased by Atlanta Ventures.
This newly opened hotel joins other Origin properties located in cities such as Austin, Lexington, Baton Rouge, and Red Rocks, along with a new site in Kansas City.
The Thrash Group, based in Mississippi, acquired the office building for $16 million in early 2022 with the aim of completing a long-stalled renovation and transforming it into a boutique hotel.
Officials highlighted the hotel’s accessibility, noting its proximity to two MARTA stations—Five Points and Garnett—as a key advantage.
Currently owned by The Thrash Group, the hotel is operated by Tandem Hospitality Group, led by president Jacob Van Winkle.
In a statement, Van Winkle emphasized the unique lodging experience the South Downtown Origin provides for both guests and locals.
He described the central location and diverse offerings as the perfect launchpad for discovering the city authentically, appealing to those in town for events like next year’s FIFA World Cup, Falcons games, or corporate meetings.
