Iran Issues New Missile Threat Amid Nuclear Negotiation Developments

Tensions are escalating as an Iranian lawmaker issued a dire warning about the country’s missile capabilities, suggesting a future strike on the United States could be possible.

Amir Hayat-Moqaddam, a member of Iran’s parliament and the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated on Sunday that the nation’s missile program, two decades in the making, may soon allow Iranian forces to target American cities.

In an interview with Didban Iran, Hayat-Moqaddam indicated that the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been diligently working to develop technology that would enable strikes from Iranian vessels stationed closer to the U.S.

Although he acknowledged that such technology is not fully operational yet, he confidently claimed it is “within our grasp.”

The lawmaker elaborated that existing missile capabilities allow Iran to already target European nations, naming France, Germany, the UK, and other parts of Western and Eastern Europe as potential sites for missile strikes.

According to Hayat-Moqaddam, Iranian ships could draw close enough to significantly reduce the distance from major U.S. cities. He mentioned that cities like New York and Washington could be within striking range, potentially within a day’s travel.

This alarming announcement comes just as reports indicate that Iran might be open to re-engage in diplomatic discussions with the West regarding its contentious nuclear program. With only weeks remaining until a deadline, Iran faces potential snapback sanctions that could further isolate the Islamic Republic.

Additionally, sources indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has shown support for a return to negotiations, despite ongoing demands from Western powers for Iran to curb its nuclear ambitions. These developments come amid continued insistence from Iranian officials regarding the persistence of the nuclear program.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry shared the threats from Iran on social media, underscoring the serious implications of these remarks on both European security and Middle Eastern geopolitics.

As the deadline for diplomatic engagement approaches, the United States is expected to evaluate how best to respond to these provocative statements, especially given the backdrop of potential military action from Israel.

Analysts speculate that Israel is weighing further military operations aimed at Iran, which could involve targeting nuclear infrastructure or even Iranian scientists who are purportedly in hiding currently.

While the remarks from Hayat-Moqaddam do not represent an official policy statement from the Iranian regime, they complicate the anticipated return to negotiations.

As tensions rise, the international community watches closely to see how this situation evolves in the coming days and weeks.

The precarious balance of diplomacy, missile capabilities, and military strategy could lead to significant changes in the dynamics of U.S.-Iran relations in the near future.
