Upcoming Urbanist Events in Seattle: Engagements and Tours

Over the next month, The Urbanist is set to host a variety of engaging events in Seattle, tailored to foster community involvement and support for local candidates.

On September 10, a walking tour will take place in Madison Valley, focusing on the Seattle City’s proposed neighborhood center. This event will be led by staff from the Seattle Office of Planning and Community Development (OPCD) and will coincide with preparation for a public comment session scheduled for September 12. Attendees can look forward to insights into Seattle’s broader citywide growth plan, which is anticipated to be approved by the Seattle City Council later this year, addressing various amendments that are currently on the table.

The walking tour is set to commence at Washington Park Playfield, specifically at the Round Rest Area. It will run from 5:30 PM to 7 PM, allowing participants to engage in meaningful discussions regarding urban development. Public transit options for this event include the RapidRide G Line, Route 8, and Route 11. Interested individuals are encouraged to RSVP to secure their spot.

Following this event, The Urbanist will cohost a meet and greet with Claudia Balducci, the endorsed candidate for King County Executive, on September 18. This gathering, taking place at Paradise on Capitol Hill, offers a casual environment for community members to meet Claudia and learn about the ongoing campaign. Participants can enjoy light appetizers and engage in a speaking program starting at 6:15 PM, followed by an open discussion on how to support the campaign further.

The event will take place from 5:30 PM to 7 PM at 314 Broadway E, Seattle, WA 98102. Those utilizing public transit can conveniently access the event via the 1 Line at Capitol Hill Station, along with several bus routes. RSVPs are also encouraged for this event.

In another exciting initiative, The Urbanist is organizing a Seattle biking scavenger hunt on September 28. This unique event invites participants to explore the city while engaging in a fun and competitive scavenger hunt that begins at Judkins Park at 11 AM and concludes at the Burke-Gilman Brewing Company at 4 PM. Participants can compete in teams for a chance to win Urbanist beanies or simply enjoy a leisurely ride and discover new parts of Seattle.

The scavenger hunt will kick off with participants being sorted into teams, and the theme and locations to find will be announced. After a few hours of exploration, everyone will regroup at the brewing company, where food will be available from nearby food trucks. Public transit options for this event include Routes 4, 7, 9, 14, 27, and 48.

Additionally, on October 4, The Urbanist is hosting a campaign volunteer training session in Mountlake Terrace. This event will focus on educating attendees about the intricacies of local political campaigns and providing valuable insights from endorsed North Sound candidates. The gathering will take place at Hemlock State Brewing from 7 PM to 9 PM.

Public transit patrons can conveniently reach this event via the 1 Line at Mountlake Terrace Station, along with various bus routes. As with previous events, RSVPs will be required.

The Urbanist also encourages participation in other local urbanist events, such as the Seattle Subway Endorsed Candidate Celebration on September 11. This celebration will feature transit-friendly candidates including Katie Wilson, Alexis Mercedes Rinck, and Dionne Foster, providing an excellent opportunity for attendees to learn how to engage with their campaigns as the November elections approach.

This event will also take place at Paradise from 5:30 PM to 7 PM, coinciding with the same transit stops as previously mentioned. RSVPs are encouraged to accommodate attendees.

These upcoming events hosted by The Urbanist present exciting opportunities for community members in Seattle to become involved in local politics, engage with candidates, and explore the city through various activities. With a focus on urban development, community advocacy, and networking, participants can look forward to enriching experiences that contribute to the broader dialogue around urban living in Seattle.
