Pacific Beach Car Show Returns for Second Annual Event

PACIFIC BEACH – The much-anticipated second annual Pacific Beach Car Show is set to take place on Saturday, August 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Garnet Avenue.

Co-hosted by the Pacific Beach Town Council, this year’s event invites all automobile enthusiasts to come out and celebrate the unique culture of San Diego.

“All gear heads, car buffs, and hot rodders are invited to join us,” stated PBTC president Charlie Nieto in a recent newsletter.

Nieto expressed that the car show is a fantastic way to showcase both the special attributes of the local community and the vibrant offerings of the beach area.

The event, also known as Charger Steve’s (Lordigyan’s) Wild Rides, has seen various iterations over the years, but this revival aims to establish it as a staple on the community event calendar.

Aside from the car show, the PBTC’s event lineup includes a board installation dinner at the Catamaran Resort in January, a community graffiti cleanup in May, Concerts on the Green at Kate Sessions Park during the summer, and a PAESAN barbecue in September aimed at honoring first responders.

Nieto described the car show as not only a fun activity but also a cultural affair, highlighting traditional favorites like Woody’s and VW Bugs.

He himself will be showcasing a classic 1974 Buick Apollo at the event.

This year’s show will feature several judged categories, including hot rods, classic cars, modern muscle cars, sports cars, low-rider imports, and more.

In a strategic move to enhance the event experience, the exhibition space has been reduced this year to allow for a more concentrated display of cars, ensuring each block is filled and lively.

The PB Car Show also aims to promote local businesses, encouraging them to extend their storefronts into the street to create a street fair atmosphere.

Nieeto noted that some sponsors, like Filippi’s, are engaging with the community by setting up booths or serving food outside.

This interaction not only benefits the event but gives local businesses more exposure during the weekend.

Looking ahead, Nieto mentioned plans for the future, including the possibility of incorporating live music and additional entertainment elements.

He reminisced about last year’s show, which notably featured a snake charmer.

One of the highlights for this year’s car show will be a specially designed nitro car, which operates on a fuel consisting of nitromethane mixed with methanol.

Known for being particularly loud, this fan-favorite will be strategically placed among local businesses to minimize noise disturbance for residents.

The event time has also been adjusted this year, starting an hour later to accommodate local businesses that open later in the morning.

While attendance at the event is free for all, there is a fee to showcase a vehicle, and car entry slots are nearly filled to capacity.

For those interested in entering a vehicle, inquiries can be directed to [email protected].

The PB Car Show boasts top sponsors such as Filippi’s Pizza Grotto, Bluewater Vacation Homes, Smash And Stack Burgers, and Woodstock’s Pizza.
