San Diego Weekend Events: Music, Art, and Laughter Await

San Diego is buzzing with excitement this weekend as a fantastic lineup of events invites locals and visitors alike to partake in a variety of activities.

From music and art to sports and comedy, there’s something for everyone.

On Friday, Grammy Award-winning artist Shaggy will perform his Mr. Symphonic Tour at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park at 7:30 p.m.

He will be accompanied by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Steven Reineke, taking the audience on a musical journey through Jamaican genres, starting from mento and ska to modern dancehall.

Tickets for this unique concert start at $45, making it an accessible option for those wanting to enjoy a night of world-class music.

For fans of dance, Friday also features City Ballet of San Diego’s “Ballet Under the Stars: The Next Generation on Stage” at the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater.

The event begins at 7 p.m. with a pre-performance picnic, followed by an outdoor ballet production at 8 p.m.

General admission is free with an RSVP, while reserved seating can be purchased for $30.

On Saturday, the spotlight shines on Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren, who will grace the Rady Shell’s stage at 7:30 p.m. with her tribute show, “Simply The Best: The Music of Tina Turner.”

Her performance is expected to be thrilling, especially for fans eager to relive “Proud Mary.”

Tickets for this show start at $54.

In the heart of Old Town, Bazaar del Mundo will host the Latin American Market starting at 10 a.m. on Friday.

This vibrant three-day event showcases handcrafted works steeped in authentic folk art, with highlights including the Mata Ortiz Pottery Market.

Visitors can meet renowned potter Jorge Quintana and witness live demonstrations from talented artists.

Creativity abounds at the 20th Annual San Diego Foundation ArtWalk at Liberty Station’s Arts District, where over 175 artists will display a variety of artwork, including paintings, jewelry, and sculpture.

The event kicks off with a ticketed preview party on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Following that, the festivities will be free to the public on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

This year, the event features a special “Artes de México” showcase along with a KidsWalk area designed for family-friendly interactive activities.

This weekend also marks the opening of the three-day Ramona Country Fair, commencing on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center.

Families can enjoy carnival rides, competitions, and a beer garden, with admission to the fair being free.

However, ride tickets are available for $20 for 24 rides, and parking starts at $20.

Sunday’s lineup includes a musical treat with Banda Night at 4 p.m.

Sport enthusiasts will not want to miss the San Diego Padres as they host the St. Louis Cardinals in an exciting three-game series this weekend.

Friday night’s game kicks off at 6:40 p.m. and includes “Party in the Park: BeerFest,” offering fans live entertainment and $5 beer specials.

Saturday’s matchup starts at 7:10 p.m., while Sunday’s game begins at 1:10 p.m., featuring KidsFest in Gallagher Square and post-game base running for youngsters.

Laughter is also on the agenda as comedy fans can catch Tom Papa’s Grateful Bread Tour at Humphreys Concerts By The Bay on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Gaslamp’s American Comedy Co. will present stand-up performances featuring comedians Ed Bassmaster and Tony D on both Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

With such a diverse array of events taking place, San Diego offers a weekend not to be missed.
