Enjoy a Leisurely San Diego Weekend with Film, Food, and Festivities

San Diego is the place to be this weekend, as an array of events cater to the local community and visitors looking to relax and have fun.

FilmOut San Diego is celebrating its 25th annual LGBTQ Film Festival, continuing through Sunday. This weekend’s screenings at the Museum of Photographic Arts feature a mix of films, ranging from full-length features to short films.

On Friday, attendees can catch screenings of “Pooja Sir” and “State of Firsts,” while Saturday’s lineup includes “Row of Life,” “Drive Back Home,” and “A Night Like This.” Don’t miss the panel discussion moderated by Ben Baur, focusing on “Queer Joy on Screen.” The festival wraps up with the closing night film, “Twinless,” which was featured at Sundance.

Doors open at 1 p.m. on Friday and at 11 a.m. for the remainder of the weekend. Individual screening tickets are priced at $17.50.

Additionally, George’s at the Cove is hosting a special event featuring Storyhouse Spirits, a local distillery that has just released Torrey Pines Gin. Starting at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Level2 bar, patrons age 21 and over can enjoy complimentary tastings of this small-batch gin. Guests can also indulge in cocktails made with Storyhouse Spirits and take advantage of 50% off all beer and wines by the glass until 4 p.m.

For baseball enthusiasts, Petco Park will be buzzing as the home team, the San Diego Padres, takes on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a weekend series. After last weekend’s defeats in LA, the Padres hope to turn things around in front of their home crowd. Although few tickets are left, the games running from Friday to Sunday start at $72, and the downtown area will be lively, featuring numerous bars showing the games.

If you’re looking for something unique, the Rady Shell will host two big-screen spectacles this weekend. On Friday, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra will provide a live musical score for “Barbie: The Movie,” followed by a showing of “Jurassic Park” on Saturday night, both starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased for $44 for the Barbie showing, which has many seats still available, while the Jurassic Park performance has fewer seats left, starting from $78.

For those seeking more budget-friendly options, the All-American Car Show takes place Saturday at 8 a.m. at Embarcadero Marina Park North. Attendees can admire classic cars while enjoying food vendors and DJ music, with awards given for Best In Show, People’s Choice, and various other categories. Admission is free for those wishing to stroll and view the vehicles.

The KPBS San Diego Book Festival kicks off at the University of San Diego at 10 a.m. on Saturday. This event features an impressive lineup of authors including politician Stacey Abrams, musician Ziggy Marley, and “Seinfeld” writer Larry Charles, along with local poets and writers from USD. Free tickets are available online, although some authors may have a $5 fee.

Also happening on Saturday is the Taste of New Orleans Food & Music Festival at the Del Mar Race Track, offering an authentic Southern experience with drinks like hurricanes and swamp water, alongside food options such as gumbo, po’boys, and jambalaya. Entertainment will be provided by the Euphoria Brass Band and Chunky Hustle Brass Band, and the fun starts at 1 p.m. Tickets for this vibrant event are priced at $43.

For those feeling adventurous, the 18th annual Bike the Bay event on Sunday allows participants to walk or bike across the Coronado Bridge. Starting at the Embarcadero and flowing through the Bayshore Bikeway, cyclists can enjoy a post-ride festival featuring food, a beer garden, and more. Registration for the ride opens at $90, with the event commencing at 8 a.m.
