For over twenty years, the San Diego County Medical Society (SDCMS) has collaborated with San Diego Magazine to honor outstanding physicians recognized by their peers. This prestigious recognition highlights the commitment to excellence in healthcare in San Diego County.
This year, voting and nominations took place from May 6 to June 16, with physicians invited to cast their votes for those they would trust to refer their friends and families to, including choices from both their specialty and others. Through this democratic process, SDCMS identified a total of 885 physicians across 102 specialties.
A meticulous verification process was implemented, confirming every nominee’s standing with the Medical Board of California and ensuring that only practicing physicians were included in the list. This verification is indicative of the high standards upheld by SDCMS.
The number of honorees reflects a broad representation of specialties, although SDCMS emphasizes that many exceptional physicians may not be included due to strict selection criteria. Only a few percent of physicians are honored within each specialty, meaning that even many well-respected physicians who received multiple nominations did not meet the selection threshold.
