Seattle Celebrates 45 Years of Partnership with Nantes through Cultural Initiatives

Seattle has officially marked the 45th anniversary of its sister city relationship with Nantes, France, highlighting the importance of cross-cultural connections in today’s global landscape.

This partnership, one of Seattle’s 20 sister cities worldwide, has served to foster diplomatic ties and cultural awareness since its establishment.

To commemorate this milestone, the Seattle-Nantes Sister City Association (SNSCA) organized a weeklong delegation trip to Nantes, featuring 15 representatives from Seattle, including Seattle City Council member Joy Hollingsworth, chef Kristi Brown, and artist Barbara Earl Thomas.

The delegation participated in discussions and exchanges focused on institutional, artistic, and culinary topics, meeting with French officials such as Pierre-Emmanuel Marais, Deputy Mayor in charge of International Relations.

Their agenda included speeches emphasizing shared values and the commitment to strengthen ties moving forward, underscoring the collaborative spirit that has flourished over four decades.
