New Dining Destinations Open in D.C. This Month

The culinary scene in Washington D.C. is bustling with new restaurant openings in July, featuring a variety of cuisines and dining experiences sure to entice locals and visitors alike.

From French-American fare to all-you-can-eat sushi, here’s a roundup of the latest dining hotspots to check out.

On July 29, Downtown welcomed Barbouzard, a French American restaurant led by chef Cedric Maupillier.

This vibrant establishment takes inspiration from the South of France, offering a menu filled with grilled fish and seafood, vegetable dishes, and pasta.

Guests can also enjoy seafood towers and caviar with martinis, all while experiencing live music performed by a DJ and various musicians on-site.

Barbouzard aims to be a late-night destination, with weekend hours extending until 1 a.m. located at 1700 K Street NW.

Just a few days earlier, on July 25, the Penn Quarter became home to Street Burger, the first U.S. location of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s burger chain.

Nestled within his Street Pizza establishment on 7th Street, Street Burger serves up uniquely crafted American-style smash burgers that differ from those found in the U.K.

The menu features double smash patties in several tasty combinations, including the ‘Next Level’ burger with caramelized onions and a spicy aioli, as well as a Hell’s Kitchen-inspired burger featuring crispy onions and jalapeños.

Additionally, patrons can enjoy fried chicken sandwiches, vegan burger options, and $5 draft beers alongside loaded fries.

Located at 507 7th Street NW, Street Burger is perfect for a casual meal in a lively environment.

On July 24, a new food hall called Wonder opened its doors in Rosslyn, Virginia.

Wonder features a carefully curated selection of dishes from various acclaimed restaurants, including the famed Di Fara Pizza from Brooklyn and Tejas Barbecue from Texas.

The venue introduces exclusive culinary creations, such as Greek-inspired offerings from celebrity chef Michael Symon in a concept called Chios Taverna.

Wonder boasts a total of 20 eateries, providing a convenient way for diners to experience diverse cuisines in one location or have their meals delivered straight to their homes.

With a promised delivery time of 30 minutes or less, Wonder is located at 1771 N. Pierce St., Unit 100, Rosslyn, Virginia.

Georgetown was graced with a new ice cream destination on July 20, as Yala Greek Ice Cream opened its doors.

Founder Chrys Kefalas brings a taste of Rhodes to D.C. with farm-fresh cream and high-quality Mediterranean ingredients.

Guests can indulge in flavors such as baklava and cherry chocolate chunks, as well as American favorites like rocky road and cookies and cream.

Other options include vegan sorbet and frozen Greek yogurt varieties, served in a bright blue-and-white shop that reflects the colors of the Greek flag at 3143 N Street NW.

On July 18, Dupont Circle welcomed Selva, a restaurant offering Central and South American classics.

Under the guidance of executive chef Giovanni Orellana, the menu features dishes inspired by his Salvadoran heritage, along with delights like ceviches and yuca patatas bravas.

The cozy atmosphere is complemented by vibrant green artwork and velvet furniture, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely meal.

Patrons can explore tasting flights of liquors distilled across the Americas while enjoying dinner and drinks at Selva, located at 1223 Connecticut Avenue NW.

A day earlier, on July 17, milk & honey— a Southern-styled brunch chain— found its place in Old Town Alexandria.

The spacious venue can accommodate up to 188 guests, featuring two full-service bars and a large private dining room.

Thompson Restaurants have repurposed the space formerly known as Thompson’s Hen Quarter into this vibrant brunch spot.

The restaurant opens its doors at 801 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia.

Also on July 17, Foggy Bottom saw the arrival of Taco Cat, a taco shop from veteran D.C. restaurateur Tim Ma.

The all-day eatery brings a playful twist to tacos, burritos, and tortas, with a range of global flavors.

The morning menu includes breakfast tacos and an enticing levanta muertos ceviche featuring shrimp and avocado.

Taco Cat is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

On July 14, Westville made its debut in Clarendon, marking the first expansion for the popular New York City vegetable-centric cafe.

Known for its health-focused options, Westville serves char-grilled turkey burgers and truffle fries, along with a rotating selection of market vegetables.

Guests can also enjoy homemade cocktails alongside lunch, dinner, and brunch offerings at 2800 Clarendon Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia.

National Landing welcomed Bar Colline on July 11, an all-day French brasserie brought to life by the Hilton brothers.

Located next to Amazon HQ2, this restaurant offers a taste of classic French cuisine, including steak frites and duck confit.

Bar Colline features a 50-foot wraparound bar, serving various wines and local beers, along with a daily happy hour from 3-6 p.m.

In mid-July, Yours Cafe opened in Woodley Park, offering freshly roasted coffee drinks supported by a Brazilian and Ethiopian menu.

Breakfast and brunch options are available all day in this community-friendly cafe, which serves wine, beer, and cocktails starting at 11 a.m.

Another notable opening on July 10 is the first D.C. location of Wonder, a unique food hall just off U Street.

Wonder brings dishes from celebrity chefs to diners under one roof, allowing patrons to order from various options via screens or the Wonder app.

A range of cuisines is available, including Mexican, barbecue, and pastries, prepared on-site.

Wonder is set to expand further with new locations planned for College Park, Cleveland Park, and more.

Union Market welcomed Crepe Crazy DMV, a new stall offering an assortment of sweet and savory crepes.

The stall aims to bring creativity and flavor to crepes, alongside its already popular dishes.

Located at 1309 5th Street NE, it promises to be a delightful stop for crepe aficionados.

Finally, on July 1, Shilling Canning Company introduced Fancy Ranch, a standalone fast-casual restaurant inside Union Market.

Known for its fried chicken, Fancy Ranch sources its poultry from family-owned Amish farms and offers it with cornbread waffles and maple butter.

Guests can fancy things up with options like caviar and Champagne, making it a unique dining experience.

Fancy Ranch is located within Union Market, 1309 5th Street NE.

Another addition to the food scene is Sushi Sato, which opened on H Street NE, alongside chef Tim Ma’s all-you-can-eat sushi offerings.

Located in the former Bronze space, Sushi Sato provides diners with endless options for nigiri and rolls at a cost of $55-$75 (time limits apply).

The “Sato roll,” featuring soft-shell crab and eel, is a highlight you won’t want to miss.
