The United States Marine Corps is gearing up for Marine Week Boston, which will be held from August 20 to 25, 2025. This event is part of the Marine Corps’ year-long celebration of its 250th anniversary.
Taking place across Greater Boston, including neighborhoods from South Boston to Marblehead, the week will honor veterans, commemorate the Corps’ longstanding traditions and service, and aim to connect with the local community to inspire future military leaders.
Marine Week Boston offers a unique opportunity for the public to witness firsthand the dedication and skills of the Marines who embody the Corps’ storied heritage.
The weeklong festivities will include a variety of activities, such as an impressive showcase of Marine Corps aircraft and vehicles located on Boston Common, alongside daily public workouts with Marines, performances by the Quantico Marine Band and Silent Drill Platoon, and a ceremonial event at historic Fort Sewall.
The Marine Corps was officially established over two centuries ago by an act of the Second Continental Congress on November 10, 1775. This significant date marks the inception of recruiting efforts led by Capt. Samuel Nicholas at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Col. J.J. Wilson, commander of the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force 250, expressed appreciation for the longstanding relationship between the Marine Corps and the Boston community.
“For centuries, the Marine Corps has had a storied history in Boston,” he stated. “We’re grateful for the support of the people of Boston and Massachusetts, where American Marines have been stationed since the Corps’ beginning. We invite the community to join us and share their stories as we continue to write new chapters in our beloved Corps’ legacy.”
Marine Week Boston will feature several public and media opportunities, beginning with a ceremony at Fort Sewall in Marblehead on Thursday, August 21, to officially celebrate the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday.
This event will take place at 4:30 p.m. and will include performances from the Silent Drill Platoon, the Color Guard, and the Quantico Marine Band, along with a Marine Corps flyover and remarks from Col. J.J. Wilson and other dignitaries.
Following the Marblehead Ceremony, attendees can enjoy a special performance by the Quantico Marine Rock Band at The Landing Restaurant in Marblehead, slated for 6:30 p.m.
From August 21 to 24, the public is invited to engage in ‘Morning PT’ workouts with the Marines each morning from 7 to 8 a.m. on Boston Common Baseball Field. These workouts are designed to be adaptable for all ages and are intended to challenge participants’ strength, endurance, and coordination, with sign-up beginning at 6:30 a.m.
A static display featuring an array of Marine Corps aircraft and equipment will also be set up on Boston Common between August 21 and 24. Visitors can interact with the display, trying on parachutes, climbing on aircraft, engaging in a pull-up challenge, enjoying camo face painting for children, and witnessing performances from the Quantico Marine Band and Silent Drill Platoon. This display will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for August 24, when it will close at 4 p.m.
Throughout Marine Week Boston, wreath-laying ceremonies will honor the sacrifices of those who served and lost their lives defending the nation. These ceremonies are scheduled for each day at 9 a.m. at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Boston Common.
Daily Colors ceremonies will also take place at Boston City Hall, located on the Congress Street side, at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. from August 22 to 24.
On Friday, August 22, the Quantico Marine Rock Band will perform at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace from 5 to 7 p.m., adding to the celebratory atmosphere throughout the week.
Sunday, August 24, will feature a gathering at Manning Field in Lynn, Massachusetts, where the Recruiting Station Boston will host performances by the Quantico Marine Band, the Silent Drill Platoon, and the Color Guard. The event also includes a field competition for future Marines, led by Marine Corps Drill Instructors, starting at 9 a.m. and concluding at 3 p.m.
Marine Week Boston will culminate with a Closing Ceremony at Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park at 4 p.m. on August 24, featuring performances by the Quantico Marine Band, Silent Drill Platoon, and Color Guard.
