Graham Bond, an experienced retailer with a diverse background, has opened a new experiential store named I Want That One located on Haskell Avenue, just across from City Place.
Having spent his life in retail, Bond’s journey began in South Africa before he moved to the United States in the 1990s to work as a buyer for Macy’s in Miami.
His career took him to London after he was recruited by the Richardson-based company Fossil to lead their UK operations—an opportunity he embraced despite the mix-up regarding his accent, as his South African intonation was often mistaken for British by his American colleagues at Fossil.
Bond continued to evolve professionally, moving to the West Coast for a role with Sears/K-Mart before eventually landing in Dallas with Signet Jewelers, the parent company of Zales.
While visiting South Africa during his career, Bond met David, leading to a long-distance relationship that blossomed into marriage at a picturesque wine farm outside Cape Town.
With David’s work as a pilot allowing for jobs in Dallas, Bond finally felt ready to pursue his dream of owning a business—a desire fueled by his passions for wine and art.
In June, during Pride Month, Bond’s vision came to life with the opening of I Want That One.
More than just a retail space, the store aims to provide an experiential shopping experience.
Bond deliberately set out to stand apart from traditional retail, explaining, “Amazon gives great customer service,” but emphasizing that there is a lack of memorable moments in these transactions.
At I Want That One, customers can engage in memorable wine tastings, sampling wines from small vineyards around the world, some of which are not available anywhere else in the DFW area.
Tastings by the glass start at an affordable $7, and wine flights for groups of four begin at just over $20.
The store can accommodate around 15 to 20 patrons for tastings, welcoming walk-ins but suggesting that larger groups provide advance notice to create a more tailored experience.
Bond invites visitors to feel relaxed and explore the myriad wine options available, anticipating an enjoyable time filled with discoveries.
In addition to wine tastings, the walls of I Want That One showcase a rotation of framed prints, photographs, and art pieces personally chosen by Bond.
These art selections reflect his tastes and experiences, with prices ranging from $50 for smaller prints to as much as $1,500 for larger pieces.
Looking ahead, the store plans to collaborate with a local artist in August.
The artist will host painting classes within the store while displaying her own work for sale, thereby merging the arts and wine sectors seamlessly.
Patrons can expect not just a painted canvas but also a glass of interesting new wine as they participate in the creative process together.
Additionally, the store features a variety of unique gift items, many sourced from Bond’s travels to countries like Vietnam and China, ensuring a diverse collection from fun gag gifts to exclusively designed beach bags.
Before leaving, customers are encouraged to try a refreshing summer treat: the frappe vino, a wine-blended Slurpee offered at $10 for a generous 8-ounce serving.
For larger servings or shared enjoyment, the store sells a variety of mixes, allowing customers to recreate the delicious drink at home with just a blender.
I Want That One is located at 2410 N. Haskell Ave. and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
