As coffee lovers look for alternatives to decrease their caffeine intake, matcha is firmly carving out its niche in Dallas.
Dubbed as a better energy source, matcha offers a sustainable, balanced boost without the typical jitters that often accompany coffee.
The powdered green tea, with its slightly lower caffeine content, not only provides a steady energy release but is also packed with antioxidants that can enhance immune function and promote overall heart and brain health.
Many are now swapping their afternoon coffee break for an energizing iced matcha latte, perfect for activities like tennis or pickleball, but the expectations surrounding matcha are just as high as they are for quality coffee.
As matcha’s popularity continues to grow, many coffee shops and dedicated matcha bars in Dallas boast their offerings as “ceremonial grade.”
This distinction signifies that ceremonial grade matcha is made from the highest quality leaves, handpicked to be used in Japanese tea ceremonies.
On the other hand, culinary-grade matcha comprises leaves from later harvests, suitable for baking or cooking.
Ceremonial grade matcha generally presents a brighter green hue, a richer taste, and higher nutrient content.
After exploring several acclaimed matcha locations throughout Dallas, I’ve put together a list of five standout spots serving the finest iced matcha lattes.
**Chasen Matcha Bar**
416 N. Tyler Street
Chasen Matcha Bar has become a hot spot for matcha lovers since opening in 2024, nestled in Oak Cliff’s Tyler Street area.
Operating only Friday through Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm, this compact café focuses on grab-and-go options, serving only unsweetened ceremonial grade matcha.
Patrons can order their iced drinks in either 12 or 16-ounce cups.
For those with a sweet tooth, the Einspanner is a delightful option, packing a punch of vanilla with a cream top, matcha drizzle, matcha powder, and salt in a 12-ounce serving.
Another tempting selection includes the Strawberry Matcha, along with uniquely flavored options like Bougie Berry, Taro Cream Top, Oreo Cream Top, and Miso Caramel.
Next time, I plan to try their Houjicha matcha, a roasted variant that promises a new experience.
**Juju’s**
6038 La Vista Drive
Further expanding the matcha connoisseur landscape, Juju’s opened its doors in Lakewood in 2023, introduced by the husband-and-wife team Nick and Julia Rocha.
Their menu features an iced matcha latte enhanced with a housemade peach syrup, delivering the perfect hint of sweetness.
Using organic ceremonial grade matcha as a base, they also offer the houjicha roasted matcha, providing those seeking an earthy flavor profile with an alternative option.
Additionally, Juju’s recently released a unique Americano-style drink named the “Coco-Fluff,” merging coconut water with whipped Yugan matcha on top.
**Hyphen Space**
4100 Commerce Street, Suite 6
Hyphen Space brings a unique concept to Fair Park, marrying a co-working environment with matcha and coffee offerings, making it an excellent spot for first-time matcha drinkers.
Opened in December 2024, for a set price of $8, guests can select from various matcha drinks or spend an hour utilizing the co-working space.
Each iced matcha drink is served in a generously sized cup exceeding the typical 16 ounces, offering an impressive value for customers.
Among their most popular options is the Strawberry Shortcake, blending matcha with strawberry compote, a condensed milk cloud cap, and crunchy brown butter cookie crumbs.
During my visit, I enjoyed the straightforward iced matcha latte with whole milk and I’m eager to try the Pandamonium, which features fresh pandan syrup, during my next visit.
Hyphen offers lactose-free whole milk as a substitute for regular whole milk, which I found pleasant in my iced matcha latte.
**Olmo Market**
2111 S Edgefield Avenue
Hailing from the creators of CocoAndré Chocolatier & Horchateria, Olmo Market is a hyper-local gem in Oak Cliff.
The market offers a delightful array that includes chocolates, gifts, coffee, horchata, and matcha drinks.
Recent summertime specials have featured fruit-infused matcha lattes such as mango, peach, and pistachio & caramel, all made with puree to deliver natural sweetness.
In addition to matcha offerings, the blending of matcha with horchata provides a unique twist for adventurous palates.
**Houndstooth**
Multiple Locations
A local favorite, Houndstooth is my go-to for a reliable iced matcha latte, particularly the one from the Sylvan Thirty location.
Their 12-ounce iced matcha with whole milk perfectly satisfies my matcha cravings without the risk of being diluted like some 16-ounce options from other cafes.
It begs the question: why aren’t more coffee shops providing customers with a flavorful, stronger 12-ounce version of iced matcha drinks?
In conclusion, whether you’re a long-time lover of matcha or just diving into the trend, Dallas boasts an impressive array of matcha spots.
With various flavors and enticing offerings, these five locations showcase the versatility and appeal that matcha brings to the city’s vibrant beverage scene.
