Exciting Events Coming to San Diego: April Highlights

As spring unfolds, San Diego is set to host an array of vibrant and engaging events this April, making it an exciting month for locals and visitors alike.

From high-end auto displays to lively music festivals, there’s something for everyone.

One of the major highlights is the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance, which runs from April 25-27, showcasing 170 of the world’s finest cars.

This year’s theme, “Mascots in Motion,” is a tribute to iconic hood ornaments with a special focus on the golden era of American Hot Rods and the centennial of the Lincoln Motor Company.

Among the new vehicle classes featured this year is Iconic American Hot Rods, ranging from 1928 to 1941.

Events during this glamorous weekend include a VIP soiree on April 25, “Porsches & Power on Prospect” on April 26, and the main event on April 27.

VIP packages are available for enthusiasts looking to experience the event in style at La Jolla Cove.

Another must-attend event is Adams Avenue Unplugged on April 26.

This acoustic music festival offers over 80 live performances spread across 24 stages along a 2-mile stretch of Adams Avenue, transforming it into a musical walkabout from University Heights to Kensington.

The festival features a diverse range of genres including blues, folk, jazz, country, and world music, spotlighting local artists in unique venues such as cafes, bars, and galleries.

With free general admission from noon until midnight, attendees are encouraged to wear comfy shoes to enjoy the full lineup.

For craft beer lovers, the Encinitas Spring Street Fair, returning on April 26-27, promises a delightful experience.

This annual celebration of the season features over 450 vendors of food and crafts, along with entertainment stages, children’s rides, and much more.

Guests can indulge in a specialized craft beer garden sponsored by Kona Big Wave, featuring selections from local breweries like Modern Times Beer and Boochcraft.

The event is designed for the whole family, with activities aimed at kids, and is free to enter.

On April 29, the San Diego Music Awards will take place, celebrating 34 years of honoring local musical talent.

Hosted at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay, the evening will feature awards in various categories including “Song of the Year” and “Best New Artist,” and will showcase performances by some of San Diego’s top musicians against the stunning backdrop of the bay.

In a delectable celebration, the Lakehouse Food & Wine Festival returns on April 26, featuring 30+ local restaurants, wineries, and breweries.

Set in the picturesque setting of Lakehouse Hotel & Resort, attendees can expect an afternoon of sampling, sipping, and enjoying live music.

Notable names include Cannonball, The Pit BBQ, and Carruth Cellars, among others.

General admission tickets range from $85 to $160 and include VIP options for early entry.

Marking its 22nd anniversary, the Celebrate the Craft Culinary Festival on April 27 showcases the culinary talents of Southern California chefs.

Held at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, this prestigious event will feature around 27 celebrated chefs and a variety of wines from regions like Paso Robles and Napa.

Proceeds from the festival will support The Ecology Center, making this a flavorful way to contribute to the community.

The La Jolla Playhouse will also host its annual WOW Festival from April 24-27.

In partnership with UC San Diego, the festival will feature 20 immersive performances and art experiences scattered throughout the campus.

With various forms of art including theater, dance, puppetry, and family-friendly experiences, the event will feature both free and paid activities for attendees.

For art enthusiasts, the San Diego Museum of Art will host its beloved floral exhibition, Art Alive, from April 25-27.

The event will see nearly 100 works from the museum’s collection transformed into stunning floral sculptures and installations.

In addition, families can enjoy hands-on art-making activities, while the Bloom Bash soiree will take place on April 25.

Finally, for opera lovers, San Diego Opera presents the timeless classic, La Traviata, from April 25-27 at the Civic Theatre.

This heart-wrenching story follows a courtesan named Violetta as she navigates love and sorrow in 19th-century Paris.

Conducted by Yves Abel and directed by Kyle Lang, this production marks the conclusion of the company’s 60th anniversary season.

With such an exciting lineup of events, there’s plenty to explore and enjoy throughout San Diego this April.
