Trader Joe’s to Open 21 New Stores Across the U.S., But Not in Illinois

Trader Joe’s, the popular grocery store renowned for its unique products and friendly atmosphere, is planning to open up to 21 new locations across the United States in the near future.

However, residents in Illinois and the broader Midwest will have to wait, as none of these new stores are set to open in this region.

A spokesperson for Trader Joe’s stated that since the company was founded in 1967, it has been consistently expanding its presence across the country.

The spokesperson emphasized that while growth varies from year to year, the overarching goal remains to deliver delicious products at great value to as many neighborhoods as possible.

Currently, Trader Joe’s operates 581 stores spread across 42 states and Washington D.C.

Notably, the only states without any Trader Joe’s locations are Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

In Illinois, Trader Joe’s has established a substantial presence with 22 stores, all located in the Chicago area.

However, the recent announcement of 21 new store openings does not include any locations in Illinois or the Midwest.

Among the new stores, the majority are concentrated in California, with five locations planned.

Other states that will see the opening of new Trader Joe’s stores include New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, Texas, Alabama, Colorado, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Washington D.C.

For those wishing to see a Trader Joe’s in their area, the company’s website offers a feature allowing customers to request consideration for new locations.

While there are no guarantees, the company takes customer interest seriously, as indicated by their location recommendation form.

Matt Sloan, a Trader Joe’s employee, mentioned in the Inside Trader Joe’s Podcast that the company values its customer base and must consider a variety of factors when determining where to open new stores.

Sloan explained that the decision-making process involves analyzing a multitude of potential sites while considering criteria like access, ease of entry and exit, and traffic flow patterns.

The goal is to secure the best possible locations to serve as many customers as effectively as possible.

The full list of new Trader Joe’s store locations includes cities across various states:

In Alabama, the new location will be in Hoover at 1771 Montgomery Hwy.

California will see new stores in Northridge, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Tracy, and Yucaipa.

Colorado residents can look forward to a new Trader Joe’s in Westminster, while Louisiana will welcome a store in New Orleans.

Maryland’s new location will be in Rockville, and Massachusetts will have a store in Boston.

In New Jersey, Iselin is on the list, and New Yorkers can expect new locations in Glenmont and Staten Island.

Additional new stores will be opened in Oklahoma City, Berwyn and Exton in Pennsylvania, and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

Texas will gain a store in San Antonio, while Washington State will see a new location in Bellingham.

Lastly, two new Trader Joe’s will open in various parts of Washington D.C.

As Trader Joe’s continues its expansion efforts, Illinois and the Midwest will have to patiently wait for future opportunities to enjoy their favorite grocery store.
