Celebrating National Brunch Month in Philadelphia: A Culinary Journey

April marks National Brunch Month, and Philadelphia is embracing the celebration with a variety of enticing spots for food enthusiasts to explore.

Among the highlights is the Grilled Salmon Stand in Mt. Airy, run by owner and chef Andrew Abraham. His signature salmon burgers have captured the attention of local diners, showcasing how a small culinary idea can thrive into a successful venture.

Located at 6667 Germantown Ave, this eatery is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in something unique this brunch month.

In West Philly, aspiring bakers can find delight at the hands of micro baker Emily Wilson. Known for her delicious soft pretzels and an impressive viennoiserie program, she offers pastries like cardamom pepita twice-baked croissants and double chocolate croissants, all made with her expertly laminated dough.

Wilson now shares a workspace with another micro baker, Bake Bake Philly, housed in the Globe Dye Works complex. She is not only creating mouthwatering treats but also passing down her skills with pretzel-making classes, scheduled for May 3rd, 4th, and 21st.

Those interested can reach her at [email protected] or visit hotplate.com/emwilsonpastry for orders and class tickets.

Brunch enthusiasts should not miss out on the Richmond Street Flea market, operating during the last Sundays of every month from April to November. A staple in the pretzel industry is Unique Snacks, which has been crafting crispy snacks in what could be considered “Pretzel-vania” since 1921. This family-owned establishment now boasts a gluten-free option called Puffzels, a new take on their classic pretzel recipes.

In a more contemporary twist, the newly opened Emmett is making waves with its innovative approach to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. Under the direction of chef Evan Snyder, this restaurant offers a playful spin on traditional dishes, alongside a selection of inventive cocktails. The dining experience is offered as a 4-course prix-fixe menu that changes with the seasons, allowing for fresh flavors and options.

For those gearing up for the IBX Broad Street Run, whether participating in the race or cheering on the runners, satisfying breakfast spots await.

The Penrose Diner, located at 2016 Penrose Avenue, is open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM, offering a nostalgic diner experience.

Another option is Izzy’s 33 on South 9th Street, serving brunch daily from 8 AM to 3 PM and dinner from 5 PM to 9 PM.

For a quick bite, Spoons on 12th Street caters to early risers, opening at 6:30 AM on weekdays and 7 AM on weekends until 2:30 PM.

Art lovers can explore the Magic Gardens Studio on Watkins Street, an iconic installation by renowned mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar. Transforming an auto repair shop into a mesmerizing immersive environment since 2007, the Magic Gardens is a colorful testament to creativity in Philadelphia.

Visitors can find more information and purchase tickets for tours of this stunning art space at PhillyMagicGardens.org.

As April unfolds, it presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy brunch at one of Philadelphia’s delightful establishments while simultaneously supporting local businesses and indulging in what the city has to offer.
