Car Drives into Crowd During Liverpool FC Parade; Man Arrested

A man has been arrested following a shocking incident in Liverpool where a car drove into a crowd celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League football title.

Emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians just after 6 PM local time. According to Merseyside Police in northwest England, the arrested individual is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.

Authorities are conducting extensive investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and have urged the public not to speculate on the incident.

There has been no immediate information regarding the number of injuries sustained during the events.

Footage circulating on social media appeared to show a dark-colored car swerving into a dense crowd as players celebrated on an open-topped bus, showcasing the Premier League trophy.

Harry Rashid, who attended the parade with his family, described the scene as terrifying. He noted that the car began ramming into people about three meters away from him.

“It was extremely fast,” Rashid recounted. “Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car.”

In a swift response, crowds and uniformed police officers surrounded the vehicle, as several individuals lay on the ground, and cordons were erected. A fire engine also arrived at the scene to assist.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his concern over the appalling scenes in Liverpool and noted that he was being kept updated about the incident.

“My thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident,” he stated on social media.

The disturbing incident occurred after a large celebration in the city center, where tens of thousands of dedicated fans braved wet weather to watch Liverpool players display the Premier League trophy atop two buses.

The extensive parade, surrounded by a robust police presence and security measures, traveled a 10-mile route through the city, enveloped in red smoke and rain.

Fireworks erupted from the Royal Liver Building, marking the parade’s climax as it concluded.

Rashid described the chaos that followed the car’s initial impact, stating that the vehicle came to a stop momentarily before accelerating again, plowing through the crowd.

“But then he put his foot down again and just ploughed through the rest of them. He just kept going,” he added, visibly shaken. “It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people.”

The incident left Rashid in shock, as he noted the innocent nature of the victims — simply fans enjoying the celebration. “My daughter started screaming, and there were people on the ground,” he lamented.

Liverpool FC has reached out via a post on X, confirming direct communication with the police about the situation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident,” the team stated, reflecting the widespread sentiment after the tragic occurrence.
