U.S. State Department Pauses New Student Visa Appointments Amid Expanded Screening Measures

The U.S. State Department has announced a temporary suspension of scheduling new student visa appointments, following directives from Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

In a cable obtained by CBS News, Rubio instructed diplomatic posts to halt any new appointments for student and foreign exchange visas.

This pause is implemented in anticipation of expanded social media screening measures for visa applicants and is set to remain in effect until further guidance is provided.

Currently, students who have already scheduled their visa interviews will still be able to proceed with those appointments despite the moratorium on new bookings.
