Broad Street BBQ Set to Debut in South Downtown Atlanta

Broad Street BBQ is gearing up to open its doors in South Downtown Atlanta, offering a diverse menu featuring brisket, pork butt, chicken, and various sausages.

The restaurant will pair these hearty dishes with house-made sauces and sides, creating an inviting experience for barbecue enthusiasts.

To complement the food, Broad Street BBQ will boast a full bar, led by Connor Hammond, a bar lead from BoccaLupo who joined Furst and Pinner in this new venture.

With its proximity to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena, the cocktail program will focus on batched cocktails that can be prepared efficiently, aiming to facilitate quicker service for patrons.

The inception of Broad Street BBQ traces back to before Sammy’s, with Furst and Pinner, friends since high school at The Paideia School in Druid Hills, initially looking for a suitable restaurant location.

They received encouragement to explore South Downtown, where they resonated with the vision presented by investors Jon Birdsong and David Cummings for revitalizing the area.

Both Furst and Pinner grew up in Atlanta, witnessing the ongoing efforts to rejuvenate downtown, and they are eager to contribute to building this community.

They believe that barbecue, known for its casual and approachable nature, will attract nearby government workers in need of a quick lunch option.

Furst expressed a strong faith in the potential of the neighborhood, describing it as a “snowball effect,” where a critical mass of establishments creates an attractive destination.

“The vision is palpable; it requires enough like-minded individuals to bring it to fruition,” Furst remarked.

The restaurant will occupy three storefronts at 96, 98, and 100 Broad St., featuring historic brick and plaster from the original buildings, counter ordering, communal tables, and an American flag mural, all contributing to an authentic barbecue ambiance.

An essential aspect of the design includes a takeout window that allows customers to observe the smoking process, mirroring successful practices from their pop-up experiences on Bainbridge Island.

Furst noted that customers were often captivated by watching the pitmaster smoke large quantities of brisket, emphasizing the importance of visibility for both patrons and cooks.

Plans are in place to open Broad Street BBQ ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Atlanta next summer, aligning with the growing excitement surrounding the event.

Birdsong and Cummings, who acquired the stretch of 57 buildings and six acres of downtown parking lots earlier in 2024, aim to transform the area into a vibrant commercial and residential hub.

Their vision includes fostering an environment supportive of startups and entrepreneurship.

Currently, South Downtown is home to other food and beverage establishments, such as Spiller Park coffee shop and Tyde Tate Kitchen, with additional restaurants like El Tesoro and Delilah’s Everyday Soul set to join the lineup along with Broad Street BBQ.

As the community continues to develop, Broad Street BBQ is poised to become a cornerstone in the ongoing revitalization of South Downtown Atlanta.
