In a significant recognition of talent from Seattle Reign FC, four players have been named to the United States Women’s National Team’s 25-player roster for the upcoming international window.
Head Coach Emma Hayes announced that Lynn Biyendolo, Jordyn Bugg, Claudia Dickey, and Sam Meza will represent the U.S. in friendly matches against the Republic of Ireland and Canada.
The U.S. squad is scheduled to face the Republic of Ireland on June 26 and 29, followed by a match against Canada on July 2.
Notably, the roster primarily features players from domestic leagues, excluding many of the USA’s European-based athletes, with defender Naomi Girma of Chelsea FC as the exception.
For each of these three matches, Coach Hayes will select 23 players from the 25 named to the roster, emphasizing the competitive nature of the selection process.
General Manager Lesle Gallimore expressed pride in the representation from Seattle Reign FC, highlighting the significance of having four players called up, including first-time players Sam Meza and Jordyn Bugg.
“Having four players called into the senior U.S. Women’s National Team — including first-timers Sam Meza and Jordyn Bugg — speaks volumes about the level of talent and commitment we have at this club,” Gallimore stated.
With 80 caps and 24 goals, forward Lynn Biyendolo boasts the most experience among the selected Reign players.
She is one of six players on the roster who have previously competed in a world championship at the senior level.
Biyendolo recently showcased her skills by scoring two goals in a notable 4-0 victory over Jamaica.
Her leadership on and off the field will undoubtedly be an asset to the U.S. team.
Goalkeeper Claudia Dickey has continued her impressive season, earning another call-up after her first in the May-June international window.
At 25 years old, Dickey is still vying for her first cap, alongside five other newly selected players on the roster.
The three goalkeepers named have all received their first call-ups this year or at the end of the previous year, bringing valuable experience from their time with the U.S. U-20s.
Meanwhile, rising stars Jordyn Bugg and Sam Meza—the latter making her senior team debut—are also part of this exciting roster.
Both players have significant experience at youth national team levels and were among four players called up for the first time during this camp.
Interestingly, all first-time call-ups previously participated in FIFA Youth World Cups.
Bugg, the youngest in the camp, played in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, while Meza was part of the USA’s 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup team, although she did not see any game action.
Meza has an impressive track record, having won a Concacaf title at the U-15, U-17, and U-20 levels, highlighting her skill and dedication.
Most recently, both players were called up to join the United States Under-23 Women’s Youth National Team for a trip to Germany, where they split games with their hosts.
The U.S. Women’s National Team’s full schedule in the upcoming months is as follows:
On June 26 at 6:00 p.m. PT, the U.S. will face the Republic of Ireland at DICK’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.
On June 29, they will meet again at 12:00 p.m. PT at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Finally, on July 2 at 4:30 p.m. PT, the U.S. will compete against Canada at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
