A new image of the Salt Lake City protester, Arturo Gamboa, arrested in connection with a deadly shooting during a protest, is emerging, raising questions about the reliability of witness statements provided to law enforcement.
Gamboa, 24, was arrested on suspicion of murder following a shooting incident that claimed the life of 39-year-old fashion designer Afa Ah Loo.
Although he never fired his weapon, Gamboa was apprehended at the scene, with safety volunteers at the event claiming they saw him raise an assault-style rifle and point it at a crowd.
However, a newly surfaced video challenges this narrative, showing Gamboa seemingly pointing his rifle toward the ground and moving away from the sound of gunfire.
This gunfire, reportedly from a safety volunteer, resulted in Ah Loo’s death and also grazed Gamboa.
Police records indicate that as of Wednesday evening, Gamboa had not yet been formally charged.
In the wake of the incident, the local community and Gamboa’s family have expressed their concern and disbelief at the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
