As Independence Day approaches, San Diego prepares for a vibrant display of patriotism with fireworks lighting up the night sky from Carlsbad to Imperial Beach.
One of the most anticipated events is the Port of San Diego’s annual Big Bay Boom, celebrated as one of the largest fireworks shows in the nation.
Scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., the spectacular pyrotechnics will be launched from four strategically placed barges located off the south and north embarcadero, as well as from Harbor Island and Shelter Island.
Visitors looking to catch the best view of the show should head to popular spots like Shelter Island, Spanish Landing Park, Harbor Island, Embarcadero Parks North and South, Seaport Village, Cesar Chavez Park, and Coronado Ferry Landing.
Patrons are encouraged to arrive early, bring a lawn chair, and tune in to the musical simulcast on KGB 101.5 FM radio to enhance their viewing experience.
To help facilitate attendance and ease traffic congestion, the Metropolitan Transit System is increasing trolley service along the Green and Blue lines, operating every 15 minutes leading up to and following the fireworks show.
The Big Bay Boom has been a staple event in San Diego since 2001, with the exception of 2020 when it was paused due to the pandemic.
Port Chairman Rafael Castellanos expressed pride in sponsoring the event, highlighting its significance as an iconic celebration for both locals and visitors.
In addition to the Big Bay Boom, several other communities across San Diego County will host their own fireworks displays, adding to the festive atmosphere.

In La Jolla, a unique environmentally friendly drone show sponsored by the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club will begin at 9 p.m., best viewed from Kellogg Park.
For families with younger children, Legoland California will present their fireworks show over DUPLO Playtown at 8:45 p.m.
