CU Denver Researchers Among World’s Top 2% of Highly Cited Scientists

A significant achievement has been recognized for researchers at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver), as eighteen of its faculty members have been named among the top 2% of highly cited scientists worldwide. This prestigious acknowledgment comes from an annual list published by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, a leading publishing company in the field of scientific research.

The list serves to highlight research impact, primarily measured by the frequency with which an individual’s published work is cited by their peers in the scientific community. Such citations indicate that the research contributes to the advancement of knowledge and fosters further discovery across various domains.

Innovative work from these researchers plays a crucial role in developing technologies that affect our daily lives, from artificial intelligence and robotics to medical advancements and environmental solutions.

The 2024 list specifically evaluates citations received in the year 2023, focusing on peer-reviewed publications across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. CU Denver’s growing presence on this elite list underscores its commitment to high-impact research, which has been increasing since 2018.

In addition to the eighteen researchers currently recognized, another thirteen faculty members are included in the career achievement list, which reflects publications and citations spanning from 1960 to 2023. Some faculty members appear on both lists, showcasing their sustained contributions to their respective fields.

A notable highlight is the positive trajectory of faculty involvement in high-impact research, as emphasized by Phillip De Leon, the associate vice chancellor for research at CU Denver. “The work these researchers are doing is changing the world,” said De Leon. “I’m inspired by their work and the fact that the number of CU Denver faculty appearing on these lists has been steadily growing since 2018. Together with many other researchers across our campus, they are elevating the university’s reputation in support of Strategic Plan Goal 3.”
