Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Festivals and Events in Dallas-Fort Worth

As the Hispanic Heritage Month approaches, North Texans are invited to immerse themselves in a vibrant fiesta celebrating culture, food, music, and family-friendly activities. From September 15 to October 15, the Dallas-Fort Worth area will come alive with a series of exciting events designed to commemorate the rich heritage and traditions of Hispanic communities.

This year’s festivities include shows, multi-day celebrations, parades, and various cultural activities that honor Hispanic traditions.

One standout event is the Hispanic Heritage Celebration at the Dallas Arboretum. This two-day affair features an impressive lineup of live music, including performances by the Cayuga All Stars band, pianist Mauricio Campos, DJ Villa, the Los Gran Reyes Band, acoustic guitarist Javier Mendoza, and a mariachi band. Adding to the cultural flair, young ladies aged 15 and 16 will participate in a Quinceañera Fashion Show, and a vibrant vendor market will offer a variety of goods.

Details for this event are as follows: it will take place on September 13 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and September 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden located at 8525 Garland Road, Dallas. Admission tickets cost $21.95 for adults, $17.95 for children ages 2-12, while children under 2 can enter for free.

To kick off the month, the city of Dallas is hosting the Viva Dallas Mexican Independence Festival. This celebration will feature a thrilling procession, grito, arts and crafts, and live mariachi and banda music to engage festival-goers in a festive atmosphere.

Viva Dallas is scheduled for September 13, running from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Dallas City Hall Plaza, located at 1500 Marilla St., Dallas. This event is free to attend.

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden will also be hosting ¡CELEBRAMOS! A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage. Visitors can explore the 120-acre botanical garden while enjoying the Latin Flag Parade and browsing the September Mariposa Market. Attendees are encouraged to wear traditional clothing to represent their country. To top it off, the Tequila-Rita Festival will be held on the same day, featuring a $50 ticket that covers food, drinks, and dancing.

This event takes place on September 13-14 and October 11-12 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, located at 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd., Fort Worth. Entry is free.

A taste of local talent will be showcased at the Oak Lawn Branch Library, where the 4th Annual Mini Mercado will take place. This event will feature a performance by Ballet Ollimpaxqui, along with a mariachi band. Local Hispanic and LGBT vendors will be selling various goods, and attendees can engage in hands-on craft stations.

This event is scheduled for September 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oak Lawn Branch Library, located at 4100 Cedar Springs Rd., Dallas. Admission is free.

Another exciting celebration will be the Ofrendas & Otoño Festival at the 19th-century pioneer town in Dallas’ City Park. Attendees can explore an artisan market, enjoy food trucks, watch live music and cultural performances, participate in yoga sessions taught in Spanish, and even take salsa dance lessons—all while viewing uforenda exhibitions.

This festival is set for September 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Park, located at 1515 S Harwood St., Dallas. General admission is free for children 12 and under, while tickets for individuals aged 13 and older are $6.30.

Families can join in the fun at the Hispanic Heritage Month Family Day, which will offer activities such as making a community Alfombra (a rug from Guatemala), painting a traditional Costa Rican Ox Cart wheel, playing games, and creating flags using Lego bricks. This engaging event is perfect for families looking to celebrate together.

The family event is taking place on September 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Skillman Southwestern Branch Library, located at 5707 Skillman St., Dallas. Admission is free.

In Mesquite, various events will be held throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, showcasing health fairs, taco trails, cultural dance showcases, book clubs, bilingual story times, and a special Hispanic Heritage Celebration at the North Branch, which will feature snacks, activities, and crafts.

These events will be running from September 15 to October 15 at multiple locations. Admission to events is free.

Grand Prairie will also join the celebrations with the Grand Fiestas Patrias Festival & Parade at City Hall. Councilman John Lopez will serve as the Grand Marshal of the parade, adding a significant local touch to the festivities happening on September 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall, 300 W Main St., Grand Prairie. Entry is free for attendees.

For those looking to enjoy live music, the Tejano Music Festival will take place on September 18 from 5 to 10 p.m. at 5752 Grandscape Blvd., The Colony, inviting attendees to dance to classic Tejano songs amidst various food options. This event is also free.

Lastly, the Hispanic Heritage Festival of Frisco will feature Hispanic art, culture, and community activities, including hands-on art activities and live performances, on September 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kaleidoscope Park, located at 2401 Internet Blvd. Suite 101, Frisco. This festival is free to the public.
