Upcoming Events in Boston: Important Information and Parking Restrictions

Boston is gearing up for a series of exciting events this fall, drawing residents and visitors alike to take part in celebrations, walks, and races across the city.

To ensure smooth transit access, attendees are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transportation.

The regional bike share service, Bluebikes, provides convenient options, and information regarding the MBTA can be found online.

For quicker return trips, MBTA advises passengers to opt for round-trip tickets instead of one-way fares.

Walking is also a viable option for exploring the city during these vibrant events.

**ALLSTON-BRIGHTON EVENTS**

The Annual Jimmy Fund Walk is scheduled for Sunday, October 5, 2025.

This event culminates at the Boston Common, following a route that mirrors the Boston Marathon, extending further down Boylston Street before making a left turn onto Charles Street to reach its conclusion at the Boston Common.

Attendees should be aware that numerous production vehicles and buses will be in the vicinity.

To facilitate the walk, expect several parking restrictions to be enforced along key streets.

On Sunday, the following streets will have restrictions:
– **Beacon Street**: North side from Spruce Street to David Mugar Way, and from Charles Street to Joy Street on the south side (Boston Common side).
– **Boylston Street**: Both sides from Arlington Street to Charles Street.
– **Charles Street**: Both sides from Boylston Street to Beacon Street.
– **Brookline Avenue**: Both sides from Deaconess Road toward Francis Street, including the loading zone and the first four metered spaces (FD056-060).
– **Cleveland Circle, Chestnut Hill Avenue**: All metered areas in Cassidy Playground Parking Area.

**BEACON HILL EVENTS**

The same day, the Annual Jimmy Fund Walk will also take place in Beacon Hill, following the same route and similar parking restrictions.

**BOSTON 10K FOR WOMEN**

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Annual Boston 10K for Women will commence on Beacon Street between Charles Street and Brimmer Street.

To prepare for the event and ensure proper street capacity, temporary parking restrictions will be implemented in targeted areas.

The parking restrictions will be in effect on the following streets:
– **Beacon Street**: South side (Boston Public Garden side) from Charles Street to the opposite side of Arlington Street.

Additionally, “Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Saturday” signs will be posted along the following streets:
– **Beacon Street**: Both sides from Charles Street to Clarendon Street, excluding the section from Charles Street to Arlington Street on the Public Garden side.
– **Boylston Street**: North side (Public Garden side) from Arlington Street to Charles Street.
– **Charles Street**: Both sides from Boylston Street to Beacon Street.

**CHINATOWN EVENTS**

Chinatown is bracing for the Annual Double Ten Parade, taking place on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. from the Chinatown Gate on Beach Street, moving right onto Washington Street, crossing State Street, and finally entering the Washington Mall area of Boston City Hall Plaza.

This vibrant celebration commemorates the start of the Wuchang Uprising, which laid the groundwork for the independence of the Republic of China from imperial rule.

During this event, parking restrictions will be enforced on the following street:
– **Beach Street**: Both sides, from Hudson Street to Tyler Street.
– **Hudson Street**: Both sides, from Kneeland Street to Beach Street.

**DORCHESTER EVENTS**

In the spirit of community engagement, the Boston Fire Department will celebrate an Open House at the Meetinghouse Hill fire station on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

This open house marks Fire Prevention Week and includes opportunities to meet local firefighters, explore fire trucks and gear, enjoy a fire safety bounce house, learn valuable fire safety tips, and participate in safety demonstrations.

To accommodate this event, parking restrictions will be enforced along:
– **Winter Street**: Both sides from East Street/Adams Street to Church Street.
– **Parish Street**: Both sides from Winter Street to the end of Parish Street.

**EAST BOSTON EVENTS**

Meanwhile, the Most Holy Redeemer Parish will host a Procession on Sunday, October 5, 2025, starting at #72 Maverick Street—Most Holy Redeemer Church—at 1 PM.

The route includes Maverick Street, left onto London Street, left onto Decatur Street, left onto Havre Street, and left onto Meridian Street, returning to the church.

Although there are no parking restrictions implemented for this procession, streets affected will experience closures during the event.

Also in East Boston, the YMCA is set to conduct the East BOOston Y 5K on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

The race will primarily occur in park areas including Bremen Street Park, East Boston Greenway, and Piers Park.

However, participants will need to utilize Marginal Street to transition from East Boston Greenway to Piers Park, which will necessitate temporary parking restrictions being put in place.

Restrictions will be observed on:
– **Marginal Street, East Boston**: South side (Piers Park side) from Orleans Street to directly across from #142 Marginal Street.

**NEWMARKET SQUARE ROADWORK**

Meanwhile, the Boston Transportation Department is conducting roadwork on Massachusetts Avenue, between Theodore Glynn Way and Magazine Street.

The ongoing project aims to adjust and improve transportation flows by temporarily removing flexposts and protective concrete barriers to facilitate effective restriping.

Additional cautionary signage will be installed as part of this effort.

To minimize disruptions to Newmarket’s commercial circulation, most of the work is anticipated to take place overnight.

The project is expected to take approximately two weeks for completion, after which all separation materials will be restored to protect the bike infrastructure in the area.

All drivers traversing through affected areas should be mindful of new signage and exercise caution.

**ROSLINDALE EVENTS**

In Roslindale, the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Friday, September 12, 2025, at 9:00 P.M.

The closure results from recent findings from a bridge inspection and will remain in effect until further notice, though pedestrian access will be maintained.

Traffic should adhere to detour signage present in the area, with the primary detour route utilizing Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street to ease through traffic.

For those westbound, the detour will follow Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway to Rowe Street to Seymour Street.

In addition, the annual Roslindale Day Parade will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

In the interest of safety and to provide staging ground for the parade, several streets in the area will feature posted parking restrictions.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and review designated parking advisories to avoid any inconvenience during these events.

With a range of activities planned, Boston is set for a lively fall, and participants are reminded to engage responsibly while enjoying all the city has to offer.
