Eater LA Highlights Standout Dishes of the Week

The culinary scene in Los Angeles continues to thrive despite challenges, with editors at Eater LA showcasing exceptional dishes in their latest highlights.

Among the standout offerings is the signature cavatelli alla norcina from Bestia, located in the Arts District.

Known for maintaining a lively atmosphere even in difficult times, Bestia serves this remarkable pasta dish characterized by hand-rolled ricotta dumplings adorned with pork fat and cheese.

The meticulous preparation results in a glaze-like sauce that perfectly coats the pasta, complemented by earthy black truffle flavors that harmonize beautifully with the rich meat and carbs.

A hint of thyme adds a refreshing lift to the dish, making it an excellent choice for sharing without overwhelming one’s appetite.

Truly Pizza may very well be one of Southern California’s finest pizzerias, inviting guests to experience its culinary prowess at 24402 Del Prado Ave, Dana Point, CA 92629.

In South LA, Komal presents an array of pre-Hispanic dishes, with its tlacoyos stealing the spotlight.

This eatery, nestled in Mercado La Paloma, offers an impressive selection that also includes quesadillas and suadero tacos.

However, the tlacoyos stand out with perfectly seasoned beans encased in a masa shell, topped with an acidic cactus salad that provides a delicious contrast.

The salty ayocote beans harmonize well with the crumbled cheese, melting slightly against the warm masa.

While the dish can be enjoyed as takeout, savoring it on-site remains an optimal experience, ideally paired with a refreshing agua fresca from Komal or the nearby Oaxacalifornia.

Highland Park boasts a new gem in the form of Santa Canela, led by owner Ellen Ramos.

With a background at notable establishments like Cha Cha Chá, 71 Above, and Redbird, Ramos now delights locals with a selection of pastries inspired by Mexico City and Los Angeles.

At Santa Canela, classic treats undergo modern twists, such as conchas filled with vanilla cream and maple doughnuts flavored with champurrado.

Of course, the uniquely shaped LA churro is featured, though it takes a little longer to prepare.

Other offerings include churro croissants and savory focaccia sandwiches, catering to varied tastes.

This takeout-only bakery provides a few sidewalk seats for those wishing to enjoy their treats right away at 5601 N. Figueroa Street, Unit 120, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

Each of these eateries showcases the vibrant and diverse culinary landscape of Los Angeles, demonstrating that exceptional dining experiences are still thriving in the city.
