Patrick Ta, the renowned celebrity makeup artist and entrepreneur, has been navigating the ups and downs of life in Los Angeles for over 13 years. Known for his work with high-profile clients like Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande, Ta recently shared his thoughts on the City of Angels and how it inspires him.
Ta expressed his current affection for Los Angeles, attributing his excitement to new friendships and experiences. He said, “For me, what makes a place magical are the people that you surround yourself with. This entire beginning of almost summer has been the best networking and relationship building that I’ve ever had in Los Angeles.”
Originally from San Diego, Ta’s journey into the makeup industry began in Arizona, where he opened a tanning and nail salon — a venture that ultimately led to bankruptcy. With a determination to pursue his passion, Ta honed his skills as a freelance makeup artist at MAC. His relocation to Los Angeles, combined with strategic social media exposure, helped cultivate a flourishing career.
Every Sunday, Ta finds a balance between relaxation and socializing. Although his early weekends were spent at his mother’s nail salons, where work was demanding, Ta fondly recalls those days in San Diego. “After work, I remember going to Red Lobster. That was such a big treat for me and my sister because seafood was so expensive,” he reminisced.
In the spirit of maintaining a fulfilling weekend schedule, Ta has crafted a structured Sunday routine that includes a morning workout, social activities, and self-care rituals.
Starting at around 8 a.m., he engages in a home workout with a friend to energize the day. After their exercise session, they make a pitstop at Whole Foods for freshly made green juice, making the most of their walk.
By noon, Ta heads to his favorite flea market. He particularly enjoys the Melrose flea market, especially when friends visit. He is drawn to the aromas of the various vendors and the unique finds, including a standout mango sticky rice perfume, which has become a staple in his home. His love for fashion is evident as he browses the hat selections available at the market. Additionally, H. Lorenzo on Sunset Boulevard is a must-visit shopping spot for him.
After the flea market, Ta indulges in a seafood brunch at one of his top choices, Catch. “I love sushi. I love seafood, and it’s nice because it’s on a rooftop,” he noted. Among his favorite dishes are the truffle sashimi, mushroom pasta with shrimp, and baked crab hand rolls, all enjoyed with a sugar-free Red Bull.
Post-brunch, Ta often spends his afternoon in West Hollywood, a hotspot for bar hopping and socializing with his friends. Despite not drinking, he values the experience of being out and about with his social circle, strolling from bar to bar, taking in the vibrant atmosphere.
As the evening approaches, Ta wraps up his socializing by 7 p.m. and returns home to prepare a meal. His recent obsession consists of steak served with avocado and A.1. Sauce, perfectly paired with his favorite Netflix shows. Currently, he is captivated by the series “Sirens.”
As the day comes to an end, Ta dedicates time to his beloved skincare routine at around 10 p.m. “I am super crazy about my skincare,” he remarked, ensuring that his face mask and conditioning treatments become part of his Sunday ritual. He takes pride in fully exfoliating his body, utilizing a silicone exfoliant pad to maintain his skin’s health and glow.
Concluding his day around 11 p.m., Ta adheres to a structured schedule that prepares him for the workweek ahead. “I always go into the office on Mondays and Tuesdays, so I don’t really like to stay up that late on Sunday,” he explained.
Through his vibrant Sunday routine, Patrick Ta embodies the essence of work-life balance in Los Angeles while reminding us of the importance of nurturing connections and self-care.
