Weekend Food Highlights: Standout Dishes from Recent Dining Adventures

This week has been a culinary adventure as Eater editors continue to discover remarkable dishes across various dining spots.

From savory soups to crispy snacks, here are some of the standout meals that caught our attention recently.

Starting off with a unique creation, our editors highly recommend trying the pistachio soup at Joon, located in Tysons.

Despite some initial setbacks due to bad weather, the experience was delightful, featuring a generous kebab platter and tasty fried falafel.

The pistachio soup was shared amongst the table, boasting a thick yet pleasant texture, enhanced by the flavors of pomegranate and frizzled shallot.

While it’s not the easiest dish to share, it’s definitely worth ordering it for yourself to truly appreciate its complex taste.

Over at Waffle Creations, which recently set up at a local food truck park, waffle fries stole the spotlight.

These golden treats were served piping hot, seasoned to perfection, and crisp without losing their potato flavor.

While they were a highlight, the chicken tenders at Astro Beer Hall fell short of expectations, yet their mozzarella sticks, with molten centers and a crunchy exterior, helped redeem the experience for those enjoying a casual drink with friends.

In the realm of enchanting appetizers, the salt and pepper fried eggplant at Astoria emerged as a favorite.

Perfect for pairing with cocktails, these spicy, fried vegetable nuggets were a delightful choice after enjoying a matinee show.

For those on the lookout for comforting pasta, Pasta Stop is a new delivery option delivering hearty portions of Italian classics.

The tri-color cheese tortellini stood out among the dishes ordered via UberEats, along with a notable beef ragu fettuccine that had a homemade essence.

The personalized touches, including heartfelt stickers on the containers, showcased the care the business puts into its offerings.

Moving on to seafood, Cordelia Fishbar in Union Market offers an incredible calamari dish that many patrons rave about.

Served with a smoky flavor from being charcoal-grilled and dressed in a marinade of aleppo oil and toasted fennel seeds, this calamari was so flavorful it won over even those who generally avoid it.

To complete the experience, pairing the calamari with the pan rustico is highly recommended to savor every bit of the exquisite sauce, and don’t forget to try the District Bloody Mary, topped with a giant grilled tiger prawn during brunch.

With so many great food options available, it’s clear that local eaters are in for a treat.

Whether you crave comforting pasta, shareable soups, or flavorful seafood, this week highlights a variety of delicious dishes worth seeking out.
