President Donald Trump has reignited a long-standing feud with talk-show host Rosie O’Donnell, this time threatening to revoke her U.S. citizenship after she criticized his administration’s response to the severe flooding in Texas.
O’Donnell had recently shared a TikTok video expressing her sorrow over the loss of life in the floods and linking the disaster to cuts Trump made to crucial weather forecasting agencies.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump responded to O’Donnell’s comments with threats, stating, “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship.”
He labeled O’Donnell as a “Threat to Humanity” and suggested she should return to Ireland, her ancestral homeland.
Trump’s comments are particularly noteworthy, as under U.S. law, a president cannot revoke citizenship from those born in the country. O’Donnell, who was born in New York, is protected by this law.
The tensions between Trump and O’Donnell date back several years, originating from their interactions on social media, where she openly criticized his policies and behavior.
After the flooding in Texas resulted in at least 120 deaths, the Trump administration faced scrutiny over the adequacy of the emergency response.
During a visit to Texas, Trump defended his administration’s handling of disaster response, asserting that his agencies performed “an incredible job under the circumstances.”
O’Donnell, in her TikTok video, expressed alarm at the state of warnings and preparedness, saying, “What a horror story in Texas. And you know, when the president guts all the early warning systems and the weathering forecast abilities of the government, these are the results that we’re gonna start to see on a daily basis.”
In response to Trump’s threat, O’Donnell took to Instagram, accusing the president of hating her for calling out his character. She described him as “a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself.”
She emphasized that her opposition to Trump stems from her commitment to values that contrast sharply with those he represents.
O’Donnell has been a frequent target of Trump’s insults. In 2014, he publicly criticized her weight loss journey, making disparaging comments on social media.
Throughout Trump’s presidency, O’Donnell expressed her fears regarding his leadership and its implications for the country.
After Trump’s recent inauguration for his second term, she relocated to Ireland with her son, voicing her intentions to return to the U.S. only when she felt it was safe for all citizens to have equal rights.
Earlier this month, Trump also mentioned the possibility of deporting Elon Musk, a naturalized citizen and former aide who has become critical of his administration.
As both O’Donnell and Trump continue their contentious back-and-forth, it remains to be seen how this feud will evolve amid ongoing political tensions in the U.S.
