Renowned chef and restaurateur Michael Schulson, the founder of the Schulson Collective, has officially launched Double Knot Miami, marking his return to South Florida with an innovative take on Japanese cuisine in the vibrant Wynwood neighborhood. The original Double Knot, which first opened in Philadelphia in 2016, quickly gained acclaim as a premier Japanese dining destination, blending traditional flavors with modern techniques. Schulson’s first South Florida venture, Monkitail at The Diplomat Beach Resort in 2017, also received high praise, establishing his reputation in the region. Now, with the debut of Double Knot Miami, Schulson brings a fresh perspective on izakaya-style dining, infusing the restaurant with Miami’s energetic spirit and an eclectic design aesthetic.
The new Miami location offers a menu that reimagines classic Japanese fare, featuring an assortment of sushi, robatayaki skewers, and inventive entrée options crafted with seasonal ingredients inspired by Japanese flavors. Guests can indulge in signature dishes such as crispy Japanese fried chicken, black cod fried rice, and luxurious kobe beef skewers, including premium A5 wagyu beef. The small plates selection enhances the communal dining experience, with dishes like wagyu soup dumplings, big eye tuna rolls, and toro nigiri served with traditional soy and wasabi. These offerings embody Schulson’s commitment to balancing authenticity with creative innovation.
“I’ve been waiting for the right time and place to bring Double Knot to Miami—and I’ve finally found it,” Schulson remarked. “We took the original inspiration—Japanese seaside meets Philadelphia grit—and reimagined it for this city. The design blends nautical elements with Wynwood’s warehouse aesthetic and layers of tropical deco. The menu reflects that same energy: bold, vibrant, and rooted in our passion for Japanese cuisine.” The restaurant’s ambiance is thoughtfully curated by Rohe Creative, who designed multiple distinct spaces within the venue. Guests can enjoy the full menu in the bar and lounge area centered around a striking 13-seat marble bar, where cocktails showcasing Japanese-inspired flavors are crafted. Signature drinks include The Double Knot, a smoky blend of bourbon, rye, vermouth, cinnamon, and clove; The Splice Knot, featuring shishito vodka, ginger-honey, and lime; and The Alpine Knot, a refreshing mixture of vodka, yuzu, honey, and shiso.
Just beyond the bar, the lounge offers plush seating and low tables, ideal for relaxing with cold brews, fine wines, or premium sake alongside expertly prepared sushi. The main dining room exudes a warm, immersive atmosphere with a vaulted ceiling lit by mosaic tiles and oversized brass sconces. Vintage tones and bold floral prints complement the concrete pillars and sleek metallic accents, creating a space that fuses Miami Deco glamour with the industrial edge of Wynwood’s artistic vibe. An intimate eight-seat sushi bar allows guests to witness chefs craft seasonal nigiri, sashimi, and signature rolls, showcasing precision and artistry.
The collaboration between Goldman Properties and Schulson Collective continues with Double Knot Miami, following successful projects such as Sampan, Graffiti Bar, Prunella, Pearl & Mary, and Alpen Rose in Philadelphia. The restaurant is situated at 2550 NW 2nd Ave, in the historic Wynwood Walls, the world’s largest outdoor street art museum. Operating hours are from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Sundays and Mondays, with extended hours until 11:00 pm from Tuesday through Thursday, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
