Seattle Rep is set to ignite its 62nd season with a flair for entertainment, kicking off with two significant productions this fall. The season features the Seattle professional debut of the Broadway hit comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong, alongside the world premiere of Fancy Dancer, an autobiographical play by renowned playwright Larissa FastHorse, known for her previous work, The Thanksgiving Play.
Performances for these exciting shows are scheduled to commence in August and September 2025, and tickets are already available for purchase.
Artistic Director Dámaso Rodríguez expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming season, stating, “This season represents the heart of what Seattle Rep does best — entertaining, inspiring, and creating meaningful opportunities for people of all ages to experience live theater. We’re building on our legacy while looking boldly toward the future.”
One of the highlights of the season, The Play That Goes Wrong, will run from August 28 to September 28, 2025, at the Bagley Wright Theater. This co-production with Portland Center Stage presents the comical struggles of a community theater troupe as they attempt to stage a murder mystery, facing humorous challenges such as collapsing sets and missed cues.
The ensemble cast includes talent such as Chip Sherman, Cassi Q Kohl, Darius Pierce, Setareki, Ashley Song, Ian Bond, Chris Murray, and Darragh Kennan, with Phillip Ray Guevara and Ashley Lanyon as understudies. The production is directed by Dámaso Rodríguez and features creative designs from experts like Tom Buderwitz (scenic design), Melanie Taylor Burgess (costumes), Connie Yun (lighting), Rodolfo Ortega (sound design), and Brian Danner (movement/fight direction).
Following shortly after, Fancy Dancer will take the stage from September 18 to November 2, 2025, at the Leo K. Theater. Co-produced with Seattle Children’s Theatre, this poignant play weaves the journey of a young woman seeking identity through dance, drawing inspiration from the life of Osage ballerina Maria Tallchief. FastHorse herself will perform alongside rising actor Burgandi Trejo Phoenix in alternating roles.
Both productions are family-friendly and recommended for audiences aged 8 and up. Additionally, families can benefit from the Fall Family Package, which offers discounted access to The Play That Goes Wrong, Fancy Dancer, and Come From Away.
In a forward-looking move, Seattle Rep has announced the upcoming world premiere of Freak the Mighty, a new musical set to debut in the 2026/27 season. Based on Rodman Philbrick’s novel, this musical, developed in collaboration with Cleveland Play House, boasts a book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe and music by Ryan Fielding Garrett.
As part of its commitment to local engagement, Seattle Rep will also introduce its new education initiative, Seattle Rep Studios, launching this fall. The program includes a variety of educational offerings, such as a 10-week Young Rep Production Intensive of The Outsiders for youth.
For adults and artists, the Rep Pro Membership will provide professional artists with access to mentorship and community classes, including workshops like Actor’s Studio with Dámaso Rodríguez and Improv for Wellness with Teague Parker. Scholarships will be available for youth classes, ensuring inclusivity in the arts.
