Upcoming Author Readings in Boston: Events Through July 26

Boston is gearing up for a range of author appearances and discussions in the coming days, promising an exciting experience for literature lovers in the area.

These events, scheduled to take place through July 26, feature various genres, from history and poetry to fiction and children’s literature.

All author appearances are in person and free unless otherwise indicated, making it accessible for many to engage with the literary community.

On Sunday, July 20, Sanugu Mandanna will sign copies of their book “A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping” at Lovestruck Books at 7 p.m. Notably, this event has a ticket price of $22.11, which includes a copy of the book.

The following day, July 21, Lisa S. Gardiner will discuss her work, “Reefs of Time: What Fossils Reveal about Coral Survival” at the Cambridge Public Library at 6 p.m. This event is sponsored by Harvard Book Store, and while attendance is free, attendees can reserve a spot for $31.82, which includes the book.

Later that evening, at 7 p.m., Patricia Walsh Chadwick will discuss her book “Breaking Glass” at the Olde Colonial Courthouse. Tickets for this event are $10 for members and $15 for non-members, available at the door.

At the same time, Joseph Lee will discuss and sign copies of his new book, “Nothing More of This Land: Community, Power, and the Search for Indigenous Identity” at the Museum of Science, with prior registration required.

Additionally, Kate Spencer will be in conversation with Meredith Goldstein to celebrate the release of her new book, “All’s Fair in Love and Pickleball,” starting at 7 p.m. at Lovestruck Books, where tickets are priced at $26.38 and include a copy of the book.

On Tuesday, July 22, Lisa S. Gardiner will continue her discussions at BioMed Realty at 12:15 p.m. Again supported by Harvard Book Store, this late-morning session is free with a required reservation, with an option for $31.82 to gain admission and a copy of the book.

Augustine Sedgewick is scheduled to speak virtually about his work, “Fatherhood: A History of Love and Power,” in conversation with Michele Filgate at 6 p.m. Tickets for virtual attendance are available for $12.50, or $43 with a shipped copy of the book.

At the same time, B.A. Shapiro will discuss and sign her book “The Lost Masterpiece” at Sandwich Public Library, sponsored by Titcomb’s Bookshop, with registration required.

Further events include Jenny L. Howe discussing “Love at Full Tilt” with Carissa Broadbent at An Unlikely Story, and Jessa Crispin addressing her book, “What Is Wrong With Men: Patriarchy, the Crisis of Masculinity, and How (Of Course) Michael Douglas Films Explain Everything” at Harvard Book Store at 7 p.m.

Paul Tremblay will also speak about his book “Another” in a conversation with Sara Farizan at Brookline Booksmith at 7 p.m., where reservations are recommended.

At Porter Square Books, Nicky Gonzalez will converse with Claire Luchette to celebrate the release of her new book, “Mayra,” also starting at 7 p.m., with prior reservation required.

To round off the evening, M.A. Wardell and Clio Evans will celebrate their new books in the Rainbow Ranch series at Lovestruck Books with a conversational format, where tickets start at $7.18.

On Wednesday, July 23, literary events commence with Zara Anishanslin discussing her book “The Painter’s Fire: A Forgotten History of the Artists Who Championed the American Revolution” at 6 p.m. This event will take place at the Massachusetts Historical Society and also be available virtually. Registration is necessary, with free tickets available for members and virtual attendees, while in-person non-member tickets cost $10.

The evening continues with Nancy Thayer and Brooke Lea Foster holding a discussion at Titcomb’s Bookshop at 6:30 p.m., requiring registration for attendees.

Additionally, Alix Morris will discuss and sign her new book, “A Year with the Seals,” at An Unlikely Story at 6:30 p.m., where tickets are available for $5, or for $31.88 including a copy of the book.

Chris Sweeney, in collaboration with Lisa Weidenfeld, will celebrate the release of his new book “The Feather Detective: Mystery, Mayhem, and the Magnificent Life of Roxie Laybourne” at Brookline Booksmith at 7 p.m., where reservations are recommended.

Meanwhile, Kate Russo will celebrate her new book, “Until Alison,” with Richard Russo at 7 p.m. at Porter Square Books, with required reservations.

Rebecca Kenney will also present her new book, “Ruthless Devotion,” along with a special guest to be announced at 7 p.m. at Lovestruck Books. Tickets are priced at $7.18, or $31.72 for admission and a copy of the book.

On Thursday, July 24, Gary Shteyngart will engage in a conversation with Tom Perrotta about his novel “Vera, or Faith” at 6 p.m. at Brattle Theater, sponsored by Harvard Book Store; tickets cost $35 and include a signed copy of the book.

Liv Constantine’s discussion of her book “Don’t Open Your Eyes” with Sara DiVello will also take place at An Unlikely Story at 6:30 p.m., where attendees can purchase tickets for $5 or $31.88, including a copy of the book.

Henri Cole will discuss his poetry collection, “The Other Love: Poems,” in conversation with Sandra Lim at Harvard Book Store at 7 p.m., followed by Ryan Pote, who will discuss his new book “Blood and Treasure” at Belmont Books.

Lastly, Alix Morris will again appear, this time for a discussion with Leila Philip about “A Year with the Seals” at Brookline Booksmith, and Allison King is set to converse with Callie Crossley at Porter Square Books regarding “The Phoenix Pencil Company,” both starting at 7 p.m. with required reservations.

The literary week will culminate on Friday, July 25, featuring a poetry reading by Krysten Hill, Heather Nelson, and Tom Snarsky at Grolier Poetry Book Shop, starting at 7 p.m. with a $10 ticket fee.

Finally, on Saturday, July 26, children’s author Mk Smith Despres will lead a reading and craft session at 11 a.m. at Porter Square Books, while Jessie Piltch-Loeb will read her children’s book “What’s Going on with Papa Bear” at 2:30 p.m. at Moon and Back Bookstore.

The week will conclude with Svetlana Chmakova discussing her graphic novel “Awkward” at Boston Public Library, sponsored by the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, starting at 4 p.m.
