Weather Forecast for Boston: Humidity Continues with Storm Chances Ahead

Boston is bracing for a weather pattern characterized by heat and humidity, with an unsettled atmosphere predicted for Thursday.

Most of the heavy weather is expected to remain to the north and west of the city. However, Boston may still experience a shower or two, particularly after the evening commute.

Overnight, temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 60s, as some clearing occurs.

As Thursday unfolds, residents can expect more clouds than sunshine. A chance of light morning showers will give way to a drier period with some sunshine, but later in the day, more significant showers and thunderstorms are anticipated with the approach of a cold front.

The atmosphere is primed with ample moisture, as dew points are projected to range between the low and mid-70s. This high moisture content is likely to lead to some heavy downpours during the afternoon storms, increasing the possibility of flash flooding, particularly across Western and Northern New England.

While Boston may avoid the most intense rainfall, the advancing cold front will move quickly enough to maintain organized storm activity that could bring scattered showers or general thunderstorms to the city by Thursday evening. Residents with outdoor plans should consider carrying an umbrella as a precaution in case of passing storms.

In terms of temperatures, the heat will persist but will not be as severe as the conditions felt on Wednesday, with highs near 90 degrees expected in Boston alongside some afternoon sunshine.

Due to the elevated dew points, heat advisories remain in effect until 7 p.m. on Thursday. The muggy air is contributing to warmer overnight temperatures while fostering a buildup of heat and humidity earlier in the day. Consequently, heat index values are predicted to reach the mid- to upper 90s.

Fortunately, Thursday will mark the end of this extreme humidity, as a transition to drier air is forecast following the cold front’s passage on Friday.

The weekend outlook suggests Saturday will bring favorable weather conditions, with dew points possibly dropping into the 50s. Under mostly sunny skies, high temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s, creating an ideal summer day for outdoor activities.

However, conditions will shift again on Sunday, as humidity begins to creep back in alongside a storm chance later in the day. Current indications suggest that showers and general thunderstorms will be most likely during the afternoon and into the evening.

In more localized forecasts, Greater Boston is anticipated to stay hot and humid, with a combination of sun and clouds throughout the day. There’s a slight chance for morning showers, which becomes more pronounced in the afternoon and evening hours, with highs around 90 degrees. The North Shore is expected to experience a cooler afternoon with highs in the mid-80s.

In Southeastern Massachusetts, variable clouds and muggy conditions will persist, with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 80s. The area also faces the possibility of light morning showers and another round of rain in the afternoon.

Central and Western Massachusetts will have a mix of sun and clouds, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. While early morning sprinkles are possible, showers or thunderstorms are anticipated in the afternoon.

The Cape and Islands are predicted to have partly cloudy skies with a chance of a shower, resulting in highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Rhode Island’s forecast includes partly cloudy skies with some sunshine, expecting highs in the mid-80s. Showers are possible both early in the morning and again in the mid to late afternoon.

In New Hampshire, partly to mostly cloudy conditions will yield highs in the mid and upper 80s, with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day, especially in the afternoon.

Vermont and Maine are expected to see a blend of clouds with streaks of sun and developing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with a likelihood of heavier rain in Vermont. Highs are projected in the low to mid-80s.
