In a significant blow to public health efforts, vaccination clinics across the United States have been canceled following the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) sudden cancellation of $11.4 billion in COVID-related funds for state and local health departments in late March.
More than a dozen vaccination clinics were called off in Pima County, Arizona, where officials expressed concern about the accessibility of vaccines for vulnerable populations.
Similarly, a media campaign aimed at bringing low-income children in Washoe County, Nevada, up to date on their vaccinations faced a similar fate, alongside planned clinics in Texas, Minnesota, and Washington.
The cuts have raised public health concerns amid a resurgence of measles, vaccine hesitancy, and growing distrust of public health agencies.
