World-Class Athletes Prepare for the 129th Boston Marathon

The excitement is building as dozens of world-class athletes prepare to race in the 129th Boston Marathon on Monday, including two-time women’s champion Hellen Obiri and defending male champion Sisay Lemma.

Kenya’s Obiri, who triumphed in the race in 2023 and 2024, aims to make history by becoming the first woman to win three consecutive Boston Marathon races since Fatuma Roba did so from 1997 to 1999.

She will face elite women from 20 countries, including past champions Des Linden, Edna Kiplagat, and Sharon Cherop.

“Defending a win is never easy, and to win the Boston Marathon twice in a row was hard, but I am happy to have done it,” Obiri said.

“On race day, I will again push for the win and hope to make it three in a row.”

In the men’s field, Ethiopia’s Lemma will also be eager to repeat his success after winning the 2024 race against a field that included five of the top seven finishers from the previous year’s competition.

“I was unlucky because of an injury, not to be able to participate at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and I was not completely ready at the Valencia Marathon last December, but I will be 100% ready next April because the Boston Marathon is a special event,” Lemma stated.

The Boston Marathon is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 21, 2025.
