Atlanta Attorney Joe English Joins Offit Kurman After Nearly Two Decades at Taylor English

Joe English, a prominent attorney in Atlanta, has officially joined Offit Kurman after co-founding Taylor English and serving in a leadership role there for 19 years.

In an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, English expressed pride in his contributions to Taylor English and reflected on his decision to move to a larger platform to better serve his clients.

“It’s just I’m at a place in my career, in my practice, where it made sense for me and my clients, which is really where it starts, to make a move to a bigger platform,” he said.

He noted that he is the only Atlanta-based attorney at Offit Kurman, which is actively planning its expansion in the Southeast.

“There’s no specific headcount or revenue goals at this stage,” English indicated, emphasizing that the focus is on a client-first approach.

“My aim is to build an office that can service clients in as full-service a way in the Southeast as we can get to,” he added.

Taylor English acknowledged English’s departure in a statement, expressing deep appreciation for his contributions and wishing him well in his future endeavors.

“We’re proud of the team we’ve built and are excited about what’s ahead,” the firm stated. “Our collaborative culture and client-centric approach remain unchanged as the firm enters this new chapter.”

Despite his transition, English affirmed that he holds “nothing but love and respect” for the Taylor English team.

English’s legal career began in Philadelphia, but he moved to Atlanta in 1991, where he spent 14 years with Fisher & Phillips specializing in employment law.

He has a track record of representing companies and executives in various employment matters, including providing preventive advice, counseling, and defending against disputes with employees.

“My passion lies in fast growth and working with growing companies and private clients who sign the back of the checks,” said English.

He noted the importance of value and spending for his clients, stating, “I enjoy working with clients that really see the value in what they’re getting.”

The entrepreneurial spirit at Offit Kurman attracted English, who has known the firm’s leadership for years and shares their philosophical alignment.

Furthermore, the opportunity to maintain a leadership role played a significant part in English’s decision to join Offit Kurman.

“The beauty of the Offit Kurman model, for me, is that I can service the same size clients that I have been servicing at a similar competitive rate structure and provide value the way I feel like I have always done during my career,” he explained.

According to Offit Kurman President Tim Lynch, English’s expertise will bolster the firm’s employment law services and enhance its presence in Atlanta and throughout the Southeast.

“Joe’s passion for supporting early-stage and high-growth companies, along with his commitment to helping entrepreneurs scale their businesses while developing best practices and legal safeguards, aligns perfectly with our practices,” Lynch stated.

English’s exit from Taylor English comes as the firm is expanding its corporate, intellectual property, litigation, and real estate practice groups, having added 10 lawyers since the beginning of the year.

The year 2024 has seen Taylor English lose several attorney groups to rival firms, including both national and international firms establishing a foothold in Atlanta.
