SALT LAKE CITY — Goldman Sachs today announced a $50,000 commitment to plant 100 trees in celebration of its 25th anniversary in Salt Lake City.
The announcement was made at Rosewood Park, where all 100 trees will be planted, during Earth Month.
Salt Lake City Mayor Mendenhall joined Goldman Sachs global head of the Office of Corporate Engagement and chair of the Urban Investment Group, Asahi Pompey, and head of the Salt Lake City office, Jill Borst.
Nearly 400 Goldman Sachs employees will also participate in the tree planting across three days as part of the firm’s volunteering initiative, Community TeamWorks.

“Goldman Sachs planted roots in Salt Lake City 25 years ago as an employer.
Over the years, we expanded our engagement, as an investor in the community and champion of small businesses,” said Asahi Pompey, global head of the Office of Corporate Engagement and chair of the Urban Investment Group at Goldman Sachs.
“We are excited for the coming years of progress, growth, and opportunity in Salt Lake City.
We thank Mayor Mendenhall and the broader community for their continued partnership.”
“Salt Lake City has been a key office for the firm since it opened in 2000 and we are incredibly proud of the tremendous growth we’ve experienced alongside this dynamic city,” said Jill Borst, head of the Salt Lake City office at Goldman Sachs.
“Utah’s exceptional talent base and business-friendly environment has enabled us to not only best serve our clients in the region, but also invest deeply in the community and help catalyze economic opportunity.”
Goldman Sachs first opened an office in Salt Lake City in 2000, attracted by the city’s infrastructure, strong educational institutions, and business opportunities.
The city is now home to the firm’s third largest office in the United States and houses employees across several of the firm’s businesses and divisions.
Goldman Sachs has a long-standing commitment to recruiting and developing the best people through regular engagement with the competitive universities in the region and has been a proud part of Salt Lake City for the last 25 years.
The firm’s signature business education program 10,000 Small Businesses has had a footprint across the state for over a decade and Goldman Sachs has committed $1.8 billion towards affordable housing units, retail office, and community space across the state of Utah through its Urban Investment Group.
“Few things represent long-term community commitment better than planting a tree, but Goldman Sachs’ 25 years in Salt Lake City certainly comes close,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall.
“These new trees will enrich Rosewood Park for years to come, just as their partnership will continue to support our community.”
