Guillermo Pharis: Redefining Bridal Fashion at Denver Fashion Week

Bridal gowns have always held a certain allure, a poetic beauty that encapsulates stories of love and identity. For designer Guillermo Pharis, each dress transcends mere fabric, embodying a unique expression of artistry and emotion.

This spring, Pharis is set to present his latest couture collection during Denver Fashion Week’s Bridal night on Saturday, May 17, at The Brighton, with tickets already available for purchase.

Known for his sculptural silhouettes and a modern take on romanticism, Pharis has established a niche in the bridal fashion landscape, where timeless elegance meets contemporary aesthetics. Interestingly, his journey into the world of bridal wear was not initially part of his career plan, but it evolved into a profound calling.

“I started sketching wedding dresses at the age of nine,” Pharis recalled, reflecting on the early roots of his passion. “While in college, I discovered a love for evening wear, ready-to-wear, and menswear. I eventually began developing full collections in New York City while attending school and interning at several fashion houses, which helped me hone my skills and creative voice.”

Launching a high-end bridal label poses immense challenges, but Pharis was determined to bring his vision to fruition.

“Launching my first full bridal collection in 2019, just before the world was upended by the pandemic, was a labor of love. I have since developed six distinct collections,” he noted proudly.

In the sacred process of crafting wedding dresses, Pharis’s studio embodies meticulous attention to detail, where every aspect—from fabric selection to fit—is thoughtfully considered.

His designs are celebrated for their clean lines and subtle embellishments, with architectural draping that enhances the wearer’s body without overshadowing it.

As wedding dresses are deeply personal creations, the challenge lies in balancing individuality with timelessness.

For Pharis, navigating this skill comes organically.

“This comes naturally to me — it’s my style, and it runs in my veins,” he stated regarding his design philosophy.

He respects traditional construction techniques, many of which feature prominently in his gowns.

“The crafting of high-end gowns has evolved significantly since the 1950s, and I aim to preserve some of those techniques in a very intentional way, almost like a religion.”

By honoring the past while possessing a keen awareness of current trends, Guillermo thrives in the contemporary fashion arena.

“When I design, my inspiration draws from not only today’s sensibilities but also yesterday’s lessons and tomorrow’s potential.”

This melding of past and present allows him to create timeless pieces infused with a refreshing modern viewpoint—each gown narrating a story of history, craftsmanship, and innovation.

Pharis’s work incorporates a refined selection of textiles and techniques, ensuring a level of craftsmanship that feels both elevated and accessible.

His collections feature time-honored materials such as silk taffeta, Mikado, tulle, and lace—each contributing to the brand’s sophisticated aesthetic.

The designer notes that past trends influence his collections, stating, “The brand is recognized for timeless cuts and clean lines, with construction and pattern-making that combine flat drafting and draping techniques.”

Many of his silhouettes boast classic skirts designed to transcend the ever-changing fashion cycles.

“I pride myself on my attention to detail, incorporating refined elements such as clean edges, structured bodices, and impeccable finishes.

These nuanced details are what transform a dress into a truly exquisite work of art,” Pharis shared.

Unlike many bridal designers who adhere strictly to trend cycles, Pharis’s focus remains on creating dresses that endure beyond momentary fads.

However, he is attuned to the modern bride’s desires—versatility, minimalism, and individuality—as he adapts his designs accordingly.

“Education and technology significantly influence the future of fashion, and the bridal segment is evolving,” he mentioned, noting the growing trend towards marrying traditional bridal elements with ready-to-wear styles.

This evolution allows bridal-inspired pieces to be worn beyond the wedding day—envision ivory gowns featuring edgy details suited for multiple occasions.

While Pharis embraces some of this modern versatility, he maintains a steadfast commitment to honoring classic designs.

“I personally embrace some aspects of modern versatility in my designs, but I believe that a wedding dress should ultimately be the most beautiful garment a person will ever wear,” he asserted.

It’s not just about aesthetics; the dress should embody meaning, evoke emotion, and create lasting memories.

“There’s something incredibly powerful about donning a gown designed specifically for such a pivotal moment, and I strive to preserve that sense of magic in every piece I create,” Pharis added.

Alongside his commitment to design, sustainability remains a crucial aspect of Pharis’s philosophy—a topic often overlooked in the bridal industry.

Given the one-wear nature of wedding dresses, questions surrounding waste and ethical production are becoming more pressing, and Pharis is quietly championing change.

“I incorporate several unconventional practices to enhance sustainability and environmental consciousness in my work,” he explained.

His approach includes avoiding peak sewing hours while minimizing paper usage and maximizing the reuse of fabric scraps to decrease waste.

“When sourcing fabrics, I’m precise and intentional, avoiding excess stock. I only procure what is necessary for each design, ensuring that every decision collectively works towards a more significant goal: creating beauty with purpose and a conscientious respect for our planet,” he detailed.

In addition to his eco-friendly practices, Pharis actively reduces his carbon footprint by walking or biking to his studio and surrounding himself with plants.

In a world often characterized by mindless consumption, Guillermo Pharis sets himself apart by being intentional in every choice, whether regarding fabric selection or energy use.

Ultimately, it is the narratives behind each dress that continue to drive his passion.

Every fitting, every bride, and every unique moment shared during the design process serve as reminders of why he is dedicated to this craft.

“My acknowledgment as a Rising Star in the Bridal Category by The Fashion Group International in New York City serves as one of the most significant milestones in my career,” he stated gratefully.

Each bridal client is special to him, reinforcing his belief in the importance of personal connections.

“Thanks to the trust inherent in these relationships, I’ve been able to expand my business, with locations now in Los Angeles, Denver, and back in New York City’s Garment District,” he elaborated.

Pharis’s journey is marked by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his craft.

He is excited to announce the opening of his second location in Denver this month, nestled in the beautiful Cherry Creek district—a promising new chapter for his expanding brand.

In essence, Guillermo Pharis is not merely crafting wedding gowns; he is weaving emotional fabric into each creation.

In a continually evolving world of fashion, his work retains deep roots in connection, skilled craftsmanship, and the enduring resonance of love.
