Portland’s Best Thrift Stores for a Budget-Friendly Summer Wardrobe

As the summer season approaches, many are seeking budget-friendly wardrobe options. Shopping second-hand can be an excellent solution, but knowing the best places to shop might feel overwhelming.

Fortunately, readers of The Oregonian/OregonLive have cast their votes, and the results of the Readers Choice Awards for local thrift stores in the Portland area have been revealed.

Leading the list is Shirtzenpantz, a new thrift store that opened in March along Southwest Capital Highway. Known for its unique social media presence and quirky promotions, this store offers customers more than just clothing. On Fridays, visitors have the chance to receive a free cookie with ice cream, and specials include discounts for unique contributions, such as poetry.

Located at 6343 S.W. Capitol Highway, Shirtzenpantz welcomes shoppers from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

In the second spot is Red, White & Blue Thrift Store, with a large selection that has gained the admiration of local shoppers. This store, situated in Gladstone, is distinctive as it is the only location in Oregon among a chain of 11 states. Readers have noted the eclectic mix of clothes, housewares, and furniture available in a cash-only environment. With no fitting rooms, shoppers are advised to come prepared with cash and ready to try items on at home.

Red, White & Blue is located at 19239 S.E. McLoughlin Blvd., operating from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

Third on the list is Village Merchants, a consignment shop that emphasizes affordability and variety. Found on Southeast Division Street, this store is ideal for treasure hunters seeking a diverse assortment of clothing, antiques, art, and housewares. With a casual atmosphere and great prices, it continues to be a favorite for many Portland shoppers.

Village Merchants operates daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and its address is 4035 S.E. Division St.

In the fourth position, William Temple House Thrift Store stands out with its spacious 10,000 square feet, filled with a wonderful selection of clothing, furniture, and books at reasonable prices. The store’s proceeds support various programs organized by the local nonprofit, William Temple House, making each purchase impactful. This North Portland gem is located at 2230 N.W. Glisan St. and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Rounding out the top five is the Assistance League of Greater Portland, a nonprofit thrift store and consignment shop in Beaverton. Shoppers appreciate the variety of clothing, home decor, furniture, and jewelry offered at great prices. Proceeds from the store benefit community services, including scholarships and support for domestic violence survivors. This well-loved store is located at 4000 S.W. 117th Ave. and is open from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays.

These five thrift stores not only provide fantastic deals for a summer wardrobe but also support meaningful community initiatives. Shoppers are encouraged to explore these wonderful local options and discover unique fashion finds this season.
