Jack Van Cleaf, who gained widespread attention as an independent artist when his song “Rattlesnake” became a viral sensation in 2023, will share insights into his journey. The track caught the ear of notable songwriters such as Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan, the latter of whom began covering the song online. For Van Cleaf, the success of “Rattlesnake” marked a critical turning point in his career, which has been unfolding since his teenage years.
“JVC is all about the vertigo of growing up,” says Van Cleaf, as he prepares to release his sophomore album with Dualtone Records. He notes that the album grapples with profound themes of home and identity, asserting a unique position that bridges indie rock and Gen Z folk.
Reflecting on his background, Van Cleaf recalls penning his first song as a high school freshman in San Diego, before moving to Nashville to pursue a career in music. He studied songwriting at Belmont University, where he produced his debut album, Fruit from the Trees, after graduation. “I met many of my closest friends during my very first week at Belmont,” he shares, highlighting his formative experiences in Music City.
