Bebe Rexha, the Grammy-nominated singer from Staten Island, has recently faced public scrutiny concerning her appearance at the 2025 Met Gala.
In light of the comments made about her body, Rexha took to social media to share a deeply personal update.
On May 6, she posted a heartfelt message on X, expressing her frustration with ongoing remarks about her weight.
The 35-year-old revealed that she has been dealing with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition that causes hormonal imbalances affecting fertility.
Additionally, she disclosed the painful experience of a recent pregnancy loss, stating, “I got pregnant, and it didn’t work out. I’ve been carrying that pain in silence.”
Through her vulnerability, Rexha aimed to encourage others to reconsider their comments about individuals’ bodies.
The singer made her Met Gala debut on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, showcasing a stunning design by Christian Siriano.
In response to Azealia Banks’ remarks about her appearance on the red carpet, Rexha confronted the criticism directly on X.
She closed her statement with a positive note to her fans, saying, “Ok I’m gonna go and enjoy my day now. Have a good day everyone. Love you.”
Rexha’s openness about her battle with PCOS is not new.
The condition can lead to various health issues, including irregular menstrual periods and infertility, as noted by the Mayo Clinic.
The syndrome is characterized by small fluid-filled sacs, or cysts, on the ovaries, which hinder regular ovulation.
Despite these challenges, Rexha strives for self-acceptance.
In a 2023 Instagram post, she discussed her evolving relationship with her body, stating, “Numbers don’t define you. Your heart does,” highlighting her commitment to kindness towards herself.
Earlier this year, Rexha also expressed her discontent with press coverage surrounding her health.
After being spotted by paparazzi while entering a hospital, the Daily Mail published photos claiming she looked “unrecognizable without makeup.”
Rexha responded on her Instagram stories, emphasizing that she had been hospitalized for a severe stomach flu at the time.
“Who waits outside a hospital to take pictures of people going in?” she questioned, expressing her anger over the intrusive behavior of paparazzi during vulnerable moments.
She further remarked, “When will paparazzi stop exploiting women at their worst moments? I’m livid. You can’t even be sick in peace.”
Rexha also humorously noted that she should remember to look presentable the next time she needed hospitalization, reflecting on the absurdity of the situation.
Her experiences shed light on the broader issue of body image and the relentless scrutiny faced by public figures, particularly women.
Through her openness, Rexha not only addresses her struggles but also stands as an advocate for others facing similar challenges, urging society to be more compassionate and thoughtful in their judgments.
