Ribfest Chicago Celebrates Its 25th Year with BBQ, Music, and Community Spirit

CHICAGO— Ribfest Chicago is back, and this year marks its 25th anniversary, bringing the irresistible aroma of barbecue to the streets of Northcenter.

Taking place from June 6 to June 8 at 4000 N. Lincoln Ave, the festival will serve as a culinary celebration with a focus on ribs while welcoming families and food enthusiasts alike.

This year’s event is presented by Sweet Baby Ray’s, a company that has deep Chicago roots and is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Attendees can expect to enjoy a delightful combination of live eclectic music performed on two stages, cold beer, and returning favorite attractions such as bourbon/whiskey tasting offerings and an expanded kids’ area.

Operating hours for Ribfest Chicago are Friday, June 6, from 5 to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, from noon to 10 p.m.

Festival-goers will have the chance to sample delectable dishes from top BBQ vendors who will be competing for the coveted title of Best of Ribfest Chicago.

The competition includes two separate awards: the People’s Choice award, which is decided by festival attendees via a QR scan vote, and the top award determined by a panel of celebrity judges.

Notable vendors this year include Armadillo’s BBQ, Aussom Aussie BBQ, Austin Texas Lightning, Baby Gold BBQ, Big City BBQ, Chicago BBQ Company, Lexington Betty Smokehouse, Mr. Greens BBQ (last year’s People’s Choice Winner), Salt Creek BBQ, Johnson’s BBQ Ribs, and Robinson’s #1 Ribs.

A highlight of this year’s festival is the daily whiskey and bourbon tasting, where participants can sample up to 16 local and international whiskies.

Families can take advantage of a spacious kids’ area filled with inflatables and various games, ensuring fun for all ages.

For those seeking a premium experience, VIP tickets are available, granting access to a special VIP Lounge Tent that includes private seating, restroom facilities, charging stations, and a swag bag along with drink tickets.

“Ribfest Chicago continues to be Chicago’s most anticipated street festival, attracting BBQ fans from all over to relish in summer festivities,” stated Eileen Keleghan, Executive Director for the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce.

The festival operates on a suggested donation of $10 at entry, aimed at benefiting the Northcenter community.

Keleghan expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event, noting that proceeds from gate donations reinvest into local schools, nonprofit organizations, economic development, and greening efforts.

To date, Ribfest Chicago has provided nearly $400,000 in direct funding to support these worthy causes, illustrating its role in enhancing the local community.

As a non-profit and non-city funded event, donations are crucial for the continued success of these community festivals.
