National Guard Deployed to Los Angeles Amid Protests Against Immigration Crackdown

In response to growing tensions and isolated clashes between federal immigration agents and protesters, the Trump administration is sending 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles.

Officials confirmed the mobilization on Saturday night, though there was ambiguity regarding the exact arrival time of the full contingent.

Interim U.S. attorney for Los Angeles, Bill Essayli, stated that troops would arrive within 24 hours, while President Donald Trump suggested on Sunday that they were already present.

KABC-TV reported that video footage showed Guard members patrolling parts of L.A. County, including locations in Paramount.

By early Sunday, KTLA reported that members of the National Guard were overseeing federal facilities in downtown Los Angeles.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced on X that the deployment was immediate to support federal law enforcement amidst escalating violence.

He further indicated that should the unrest continue, active duty Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton would be mobilized and placed on high alert.

The primary purpose of the National Guard deployment is to assist federal law enforcement operations related to Trump’s immigration policies.
