City Limits has compiled the latest updates on housing and land use-related events in New York City. This weekly calendar serves as a guide for residents looking to engage with local governance and participate in public hearings and affordable housing lotteries.
On Tuesday, June 10, a series of significant meetings will take place. The Landmarks Preservation Commission is scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m., providing an opportunity for the public to understand ongoing preservation efforts within the city.
At 10 a.m., the NYC Council’s Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will host an oversight hearing focused on the Department of Design and Construction’s ‘design-build’ processes. Following this, at 10:45 a.m., the Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises will discuss land use applications for Grace Houses and Ocean Crest Article XI.
The Committee on Land Use will convene at 11 a.m. to also address applications for the same projects, making it a crucial hour for stakeholders involved in these developments.
Later in the day, from 5 to 8 p.m., the New York City Charter Revision Commission will hold a public input hearing in the Bronx, seeking community feedback on potential changes to rules governing housing and land use.
The following day, Wednesday, June 11, will feature an online info session hosted by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and NYC Accelerator at noon. This session will inform landlords and property owners about compliance with the new emissions law, Local Law 97, a vital regulation aimed at promoting environmental accountability in New York’s buildings.
On Thursday, June 12, the day will begin with the Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Sitings and Dispositions meeting at 10 a.m. This session will address various land use applications, including those for Carmen Villegas Apartments geared towards senior housing, and a new primary/intermediate school facility at Halletts Point in Queens.
At 11 a.m., another meeting will occur when the Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises reviews the application for The Coney Development. Concurrently, the Committee on Economic Development will hold an oversight hearing focused on redevelopment plans for the Brooklyn Marine Terminal.
The day will conclude with a public hearing by the Rent Guidelines Board, which is considering annual rent increases for tenants in stabilized apartments. This hearing will take place in the Bronx from 5 to 8 p.m., addressing critical concerns affecting renters across the city.
Looking ahead to Monday, June 16, the Committee on Public Housing will oversee a hearing on vacancies and transfers at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) at 10 a.m. A review session conducted by the Landmarks Preservation Commission will follow at 1 p.m.
In addition to these events, the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development has announced upcoming affordable housing lotteries that are set to close soon.
Notably, applications for the following subsidized buildings will be accepted only for a limited time.
The 217 Eckford Street Apartments in Brooklyn is open for households earning between $122,229 and $189,540, with a deadline of June 10. Two more Brooklyn properties – 91 De Sales Place with income limits of $93,018 to $140,000, and Bushwick Alliance serving households between $38,435 and $140,000 – also share the June 10 application deadline.
There are additional opportunities in Queens, with Eagle Loft Collection Phase 2 for households earning between $94,286 and $189,540, closing on June 13. Followed by the Northeastern Towers Annex for those earning up to $72,900 by June 15, and Core NYC for incomes ranging from $68,400 to $227,500, ending June 16.
Finally, the 514 Maple Street Apartments in Brooklyn will be available for households earning between $90,858 and $261,170 until June 16.
