Atlanta Celebrates Juneteenth with Vibrant Festivities and Cultural Events

Atlanta is embracing Juneteenth with a variety of celebrations that highlight culture, joy, and history. These festivities not only pay homage to the date when the last enslaved individuals in the United States learned they were free but also offer rich and enjoyable experiences for residents and visitors alike.

One of the most prominent events in the Southeast is set to take place at Piedmont Park, featuring a two-day festival that attracts families and individuals from all walks of life. This engaging celebration includes a Black History Parade, multiple stages for live music, food trucks serving delicious cuisine, a car show, a cultural 5K run, and a large vendor market. Attendees can enjoy this festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., all free of charge.

Another notable event is the Sandy Springs Juneteenth Celebration, scheduled for June 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. This free event promises to be entertaining, featuring live performances, food trucks, and interactive experiences. Guests can participate in a West African drum circle, explore a genealogy exhibit, and appreciate student-created digital art displays. The evening will also showcase a dance and theater production titled “IMANI,” kicking off at 5:30 p.m. in the Byers Theatre.

The celebrations continue on June 19 with an engaging festival featuring a morning parade, food trucks, live music, and a dedicated kids’ zone. This family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to all at no cost, ensuring everyone can join in the celebration.

Hapeville is also joining the Juneteenth festivities with its inaugural Freedom Day Celebration on June 19. The day’s activities begin with a historical walking tour and poetry readings, followed by an afternoon filled with music, vendors, and games at Jess Lucas Y-Teen Park. Admission to this event is free, making it accessible to the community.

In addition to these larger events, several smaller gatherings are also scheduled across the city to celebrate Black culture and entrepreneurship. The Shop Black Fest Atlanta on June 14 invites attendees to support local Black-owned businesses through vendors, performances, and interactive activities. Entrance to this event is free.

For a more interactive experience, the Chocolate Girl Karaoke event on June 19 encourages attendees to honor the music of Black women in a karaoke format. Although free, space is limited, so early arrival is recommended.

Art enthusiasts can participate in a Paint Party Juneteenth Celebration, also on June 19, creating guided artwork inspired by themes of freedom and cultural identity. Tickets for this creative event are priced at $35.64 and include all necessary supplies.

Further enriching the celebration is the BEAUTÉ NOIR FEST on June 21, which features DJs, a fashion show, food, and workshops dedicated to themes of Black creativity and freedom. The Heal Your House Festival on June 14 provides wellness activities, including yoga, DJ sets, meditation, and a community walk.

A unique crossover event, the Father’s Day x Juneteenth Summer BBQ on June 15 at Wade Walker Park brings food trucks, live DJs, and games to families for an entry fee of $10, while children under 11 can attend for free.

Lastly, party-goers can help close out the celebrations at the POWER: Juneteenth All White Day Party on June 19 at Essence in Riverdale, where guests can enjoy a lively indoor atmosphere with DJs, food, and beverages, all free with RSVP before 4 p.m.

Film lovers should not miss the Juneteenth Fan Faves at AMC Theatres, where select locations will screen
