U.S. Allies Warned Ahead of Israeli Strikes on Iran

The State Department informed various U.S.-allied governments in the Middle East prior to Israel’s military strikes on Iran, as reported by multiple sources to CBS News.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio personally reached out to several allied nations, conveying that the military actions undertaken by Israel were not U.S. operations and did not involve American assets.

The core message of the Trump administration was that it favored diplomacy over military force, seeking to clarify its position amidst concerns about the potential repercussions of the strikes.

Regional allied governments perceived the administration’s outreach as an attempt to distance itself from the Israeli military action, which might lead to unintended consequences for nations in the region, particularly those hosting American forces.

CBS News has reached out to the State Department and the White House for further comments on this development, with no immediate responses received.

Traditionally, the State Department provides details following communications with foreign ministers, but in this instance, such practice was not followed.

In early hours of Friday, Israel announced that its airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, research scientists, and senior military officials.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that this operation could span multiple days.

Despite public claims of non-involvement from the Trump administration concerning Israel’s strikes, they acknowledged receiving advance notice of the plans.

Furthermore, U.S. forces assisted in intercepting Iranian missiles fired in retaliation against these airstrikes, though the exact level of coordination between the U.S. and Israel remains unclear according to Israeli officials.

Following the strikes, Iran’s military launched a series of missile and drone attacks on Israel, resulting in injuries to over 20 individuals, as reported by the Israel Defense Forces.

Prior to these military actions, Iran had threatened to target U.S. bases in the region in the event of an attack against them.

Secretary Rubio has publicly warned Iran against any threats to U.S. forces, reaffirming the American administration’s stance on safeguarding its personnel.

President Trump is simultaneously pursuing negotiations with Iran to constrain its nuclear program.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump urged Iran to
