Father’s Day Weekend Parades May Affect Travel in New York City

ST. GEORGE, STATEN ISLAND — As Father’s Day approaches, residents planning to take their dads out for a meal this weekend should remain vigilant about their travel routes across New York City.

A series of parades and festivals are set to unfold, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, which will likely lead to significant road closures throughout the city.

The festivities kick off on Saturday, June 14, with multiple parades taking place. One notable event is the Juneteenth Freedom Parade occurring on Staten Island, which aims to honor the significance of the Juneteenth holiday.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has advised that road closures will be enacted at their discretion, and local residents should prepare for these disruptions.

Among the events scheduled for Saturday is the 40th Immigrant’s Parade-International Cultures Celebration in Manhattan. The parade’s formation will occur between 44th and 45th Streets, stretching along 5th and 6th Avenues, with the main route moving down 6th Avenue from 44th to 55th Street.

Additionally, the Hare Krishna Festival and Parade 2025 will take place nearby, beginning on 45th Street and progressing along 5th Avenue towards the east sidewalk and parking lane. Dispersal for this event will occur on 5th Avenue between 8th Street and Washington Square North.

Another significant gathering is the Christian Family Parade, which will have its formation spread across several streets including 97th, 98th, 99th, and between 100th and 101st Streets, before winding down 3rd Avenue toward 120th Street. Dispersal for this parade will be directed at 120th Street.

On the festive side, the Turtle Bay Festival will take over Lexington Avenue between 42nd and 54th Streets, promising a vibrant celebration for attendees.

In Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Pride Parade and Festival are scheduled, occupying sections of 5th Avenue and 4th Street. Formation for this parade will commence between Baltic Street and Lincoln Place, while the route will proceed along 5th Avenue towards 9th Street.

The Juneteenth Freedom Parade also aims to shine a light on the cultural heritage and significance of the holiday, taking place on Staten Island. The formation and route will be along Bay Street, culminating with dispersal into Tappen Park.

Furthermore, the Juneteenth NYC Parade will convene in Brooklyn, beginning at Pitkin Avenue and proceeding along Pennsylvania Avenue and Linden Boulevard. This event will disperse on Vermont Street following its conclusion.

For sports fans, the weekend will also feature the Citizens Queens 10K taking place at Flushing Meadows Crotona Park, allowing participants to engage in physical activity amid the celebrations.

The following day, Sunday, June 15, will see the much-anticipated 2025 Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic and Festival take over several streets in Manhattan, bringing cyclists and fans together for a day of racing excitement.

Key locations impacted will include Madison Avenue from 124th to 116th Street, and various sections of 5th Avenue. Streets around Mount Morris Park West and a portion of 124th Street will also see closures, which could impact both local traffic and access to surrounding areas.

As the weekend unfolds, it is crucial for city dwellers and visitors alike to remain informed of the changing street conditions to avoid unnecessary delays.

With celebrations happening across the boroughs, thousands are expected to take part in both the parades and the joyous events, showcasing the rich tapestry of culture and community that New York City has to offer.

In preparation for the weekend, it is advised that those venturing out to take advantage of alternative transportation options or adjust their travel plans accordingly to navigate through the city effectively.
