Massapequa Park Celebrates Recognition as New York’s Best Place to Live

Massapequa Park is basking in newfound recognition after being named New York’s best place to live by U.S. News & World Report.

Residents are embracing the accolade, with many exclaiming, “Why not us?” as they celebrate their community’s charm and vibrancy.

This recognition comes at a time when the community is managing both pride and controversy, having recently grappled with the arrest of alleged Gilgo Beach killer Rex Heuermann, a lifelong resident and Berner High School graduate.

Despite the unsettling connection to this incident, local businesses and residents insist that the spirit of Massapequa Park remains undampened.

Michael Cassano, a lifelong resident and owner of American Beauty restaurant, expressed the strong community spirit that defines the area.

Cassano believes the town’s unique demeanor stems from its resilient residents, stating, “This is the place you want to start a family.”

He pointed out the unity displayed by locals in their fight to preserve the school’s ‘Chiefs’ name and logo against a state ban on Native American imagery.

He emphasized that this pride extends to all facets of community life, evident in the way residents band together in times of need.

His wife, Maria, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the strong neighborhood spirit that is nurtured in Massapequa.

Locals recalled the overwhelming support shown for the family of fallen NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, where residents came out in droves to honor him during his funeral procession.

“Seeing our community come together is a norm for us,” she said.

Massapequa Park scored high across various quality-of-life metrics, making it not only New York’s best place to live but also placing in the top 150 communities nationwide.

Many longtime residents and newcomers were not surprised, citing the town’s appealing small-town atmosphere combined with essential amenities and proximity to New York City.

The median home price in this desirable South Shore area sits at approximately $746,500, according to Realtor.com, making it a prime location for families looking to settle in a friendly neighborhood.

Allie and Vinny Frazzetto recently moved to Massapequa Park, drawn by the area’s strong reputation for good schools, community values, and its overall safety.

Allie mentioned that despite potential concerns linked to the Gilgo Beach association, the town’s far-reaching positive attributes won over their decision to build a future there.

“We focused on what the community represents, which is the values we sought,” she stated, noting their excitement as they prepare for their first child.

Massapequa Park was also highlighted for its low crime rates and public safety in the recent U.S. News ranking, adding to its appeal as a family-friendly environment.

Local leaders have praised Mayor Daniel Pearl for his commitment to addressing the residential needs of Massapequa Park, contributing to its reputation as a safe haven.

The Frazzettos, having previously lived in Bayside, Queens, are looking forward to raising their family in the friendly blocks of Massapequa.

“I love that you have the opportunities that a big district would give you, but the feel of a small neighborhood,” Allie noted, emphasizing the sense of togetherness they’ve already experienced.

Vinny shared his excitement about his child growing up in a nurturing and safe environment, reminiscent of his own childhood.

Massapequa High School has been making headlines in sports as well, with its baseball, softball, and lacrosse teams achieving county titles, further enhancing the town’s sense of community pride.

Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Saladino, himself a Massapequa graduate, commended the local schools and families for cultivating a successful environment for youth.

“There’s tremendous support from the parents, the families, and the community,” he remarked.

Rishi Matadeen, a veteran manager at a local bar, conveyed his excitement at the town’s recent ranking.

He noted that the community holds a diverse array of residents across different professions, making it unique and inviting for everyone.

“Whether you work in construction or on Wall Street, there’s no awkwardness here,” Matadeen said, highlighting the ease of interaction among residents.

His reflections on the recent recognition reveal a renewed appreciation and sense of pride within the community as they reflect on their journey.

As residents continue to celebrate this prestigious title, others express their longstanding commitment to keeping the values of Massapequa Park alive, ensuring the town remains an inviting sanctuary for families for years to come.
